The age of the apostles is of enormous consequence to the general tenor of the Church---both culturally and doctrinally. The advanced age of the leaders has some very practical effects, as was very easy to observe in the case of the priesthood ban. The ban was finally lifted well after the rest of the U.S. had begun to move in more liberal and racially-tolerant directions. It is pretty easy to reason that the Church waited so long in part due to the "old fogey" views harbored by the Brethren at that time. Because of the old age of the Brethren, the notion of "continuing revelation" seems like mere lip service. Nothing will change, except at a snail's pace.

Perry and Packer have been in for a long time - never got to be in the FP club yet.

Sounds like something from the bygone days of Madison Avenue. The Pepsi Generation approach is only to sell products. It was not meant as a guideline for social policy. In truth, age and wisdom go together much like youth and impulsiveness.

Actually, 67 + 30 = 97, which is quite a bit over 90, not a shade under it.

Actually Christ is the head of the church, and hes like 2002 years old now.

I hear hes pretty tough about changing with the popular culture as well.

Think its his age ?

I was thinking that as medical tech continues to extend the age of life, the average ages of the GAs would continue to increase, to the point that a 90 year old would be a "breath of fresh air" (thus showing that the other First Presidency members would be even older).

Actually if you want to go along with the dating that Christ was born 6-4 BC (Herod died in 4 BC) timeline then Christ would be 2012-2014 (-3 days for that siesta in the cave).

Such a form of leadership is common in communist states in which the length of one's service to the party is held to be the main qualification for leadership. In the time of the Eight Immortals of Communist Party of China, it was quipped, "the 80-year-olds are calling meetings of 70-year-olds to decide which 60-year-olds should retire". For instance, Party leader Mao Zedong was 82 when he died, while Deng Xiaoping retained a powerful influence until he was nearly 90.
