Sometimes it can also depend on how much you have going on your PC. People often have many windows open, and that will slow the submitted post. If you want it to load faster, close other windows.

This is false.
Works for me all the time. I just did it. It could, however, be a myth. I'm openminded.
I should clarify this.
Your internet connection and the speed at which your PC runs at are 2 COMPLETELY separate things.
You have no idea how many times someone goes out and buys a new PC so they can surf faster.
Now, an EXTREMELY slow PC, with very low memory that has multiple programs running, one of these being the browser would be slow because the browser would have to wait it's turn before it could send information to the web site, and then wait it's turn before it could receive the information coming back. In this case, yes, you're right that closing windows would make the BROWSER run faster, but it does not make the internet run any faster.

Dr. Shades wrote:That's the whole point of this thread. Don't bother waiting forever and ever. After about 15 seconds or so, if it still hasn't "taken," merely click on the "Mormon Discussions Forum Index" link and keep right on reading, surfing, etc. The system will work in the background.
I'm skeptical of doing that. What if the post never shows up? Then you have to re-type everything.
Like I said, sometimes, my posts just never go through - when I get the 'page cannot be displayed' error. I'd rather wait and see if it goes through before starting to surf the site.
When I write emails, quite often the page refreshes before I am finished and I would lose everything, and that can be a lot at times. So I got myself into a habit of copying everything and then pressing send and if it lost everything, I could just paste it.
Shades, what about when clicking "Mormon Discussion Forum Index, it takes forever?
I'm not actually sure how to fix this. I've done some packet sniffing, and it seems like the post gets sent, but somewhere along the line the response from the server gets lost. Sometimes I can see the response sending out one of my servers up the chain, but by the time it gets to my machine, it's just gone. It then takes a while for the browser to say "hey, I didn't get anything yet, did you send something?"
There may be hidden settings in firefox or opera which can speed up that "did you send?" time, but on the server-side, I don't know of a fix.
Shades has been pushing for the latest phpBB version, so maybe that'll help.
I figured this out a while back too. Just waiting would drive me crazy, though (even if I was still browsing in another window), so I'd specifically go to the thread that I was posting on to see if my post was up yet (in a separate window or tab, of course). Often, the post would show as posted, even though the original window showed that it was still waiting to submit.
