I've mentioned several times before that I really quite respect charity in a lot of ways.
I don't / wouldn't personally find the comment offensive - if it was directed at me or not. For the same reason others have mentioned. And I respect that most of the time, she is simply voicing her belief as she sees it.
But what really gets me is the hypocrisy of round upon round of judgment leveled against all and sundry capped of with an innocent look around, then pointing at herself and saying "What - me? I'm judging? No no no - you have it all wrong..."
I think Merc can be unnecessarily contentious, obnoxious and hostile. All the time. He practically looks for fights.
...but here's the thing. If I were to ask Merc the question: "Merc - do you think that sometimes you are hostile and aggressive?" - I really can't see his reaction being "What - ME?! Why would you say such a thing...?!"

Unnecessary or not, sure. I can be hostile. I make it a point to be hostile. If you were to meet me in person and you were not pushing your opinions down my throat then we'd have a good time. Its when arrogance, bigotry and a sense of entitlement come together that I spring into action and call it like I see it.

They're strawmen because she chooses to feel offended by sundry Church teachings or scriptural verses. The offense is not in the teachings or the verses, but in the one who feels offended. This is the burden of the Book of Mormon teachings on the subject; certain kinds of people take the truth to be hard. They are offended. They shake and tremble with anger.
Yet another individual, standing right next to the offended and enraged, may feel no anger or offense whatever, but indeed, feel completely comfortable with the ideas expressed.
The dynamics of offense are between the teachings and the individual, but the origin of the offense is within the offended.

That's OK. I don't take it personal (agreement #2). Interesting how you DO seem to care what Charity's opinion is, however. Why does her opinion matter so much to you, Merc?
