I think it is nice for me to know when I am being judgmental. Otherwise I have just one more blind spot. Sometimes it helps soothe my conscience to admit when I have been judgmental.

We know what a little time between the spoken word and the repeat of that spoken word is required for the word to be altered.

People can’t even quote others accurately on this bb when the posts the written word is right before them a few posts behind the misrepresentation of what the person said.

Even people don't want to quote others accurately.
- Whenever a poet or preacher, chief or wizard spouts gibberish, the human race spends centuries deciphering the message. - Umberto Eco
- To assert that the earth revolves around the sun is as erroneous as to claim that Jesus was not born of a virgin. - Cardinal Bellarmine at the trial of Galilei

Charity Hi,

I think 'judgement' does go on all the time. When I go for a job interview I would be judged on my ability to teach and on the likelihood that I will fit in with the Head's ethos and the direction he/she wants to take the school, with other teachers, and so on. Hopefully I wouldn't be judged on my ability to do the job on anything other than professional criteria. If I don't get the job because I'm too old, too young, female, male, gay, of a different race than that's a whole different issue. (though I might be too expensive!!)

My idea of the afterlife is that we will be judging ourselves mostly. What's the point in having a judgement placed upon us if we don't understand what is going on? It has to be internal with help perhaps to see not only all the stuff we did that we oughtn't to have done, the missed opportunities, but balanced out with all the good we did and the times we picked ourselves up and made good. In the context of eternal progression, there will never be a time where we can't improve and progress. That's why I don't like the idea of a 'final' judgement. Final implies end, whereas I tend to believe that any judging will be just the beginning with the doors as wide open as we want them to be, for bettering ourselves and reaching our own full potential.

What I don't like about worldly judgement is that it is so darn imperfect really. Judgement without empathy and understanding is cold and hard. The admonition to not judge another till you have walked a mile in his shoes, may be trite but it offers a deep truth I think about the best way to deal with our neighbours.

Of course I have made a judgement about Joseph Smith. He made some extraordinary claims, and I must judge the validity of those claims based on the best evidence I can gather. Obviously I have come to different end conclusions than yourself. That is both our perogatives. But I don't consider myself more or less enlightened than you for having done so. You are on the path you consider to be closest to that which would bring most good to yourself and others in the world, and I am on mine...

Hope those ramblings can add to the discussion a bit...!!

All best

Mary
