Does anything need to change here on MormonDiscussions.com?
I voted in the "Yes" column because there are a couple of things I would like to see changed in order to facilitate Shades' vision a little bit more effectively.
1. Another Moderator would really help facilitate things. With the extended traffic we have encountered, it's difficult for Bond, Shades, and me to catch everything. The extended traffic is a GOOD thing, but I think we can probably use more help because of it as well.
2. I think that the Ignore Button feature would help posters self moderate. There would be less temptation to get into verbal bashing, and have good threads spin out of control. If there is a poster that you just vehemently disagree with, put them on "ignore", and don't even be tempted to read what they're posting. This will also save Mods the trouble of having to split as many threads.
3. The threaded view would be a nice addition if it is not too much of a hassle to incorporate. What I would actually like to see is an option where you could view threads in either a threaded or linear view. (This is more of an "it would be nice", not a necessity.)
4. I would love to see Smilies. Shades, I know you hate them, but I honestly think that Smilies do provide that "facial content", or eye contact that is missing when you are communicating on a message board. The reason so many message boards incorporate smilies is because it is a way to enhance communication tone.

Coggins tried to post something 'interesting' and have a decent conversation about it.
It got pulled 3 (or more) different ways within minutes.
Shades had to step in and split the thing up.
If every thread turns out like that (which it could, or nearly all - at least the threads that are interesting enough to bother with), then the mods have a massive task on their hands (potentially...)
That's all I'm saying.
So sure - I'd love to see people get to grips with things in the Celestial on their own accord. That would help things immensely.
...but if not..?

Liz. That is all very nice but then I would be on most people's ignore list and there wouldn't really be any point me being here. But then that would mean there isn't really any point me being here. I have emailed Keane about how much it would cost to have the option of either threaded or flat view. Hopefully he doesn't have me on his ignore list. He didn't reply to my last email about the blog error I got.

That's my point. It is not the boards fault. It is the people.
I just recomended a friend to come here and this came up.

Yah, yesterday I was thinking I was for the ignore function with the knowledge that I would be ignored by the majority of the community (which probably occurs anyway!), but I'm not sure I reallllllllly am that keen on the idea. Sometimes people that just irritate me for the most part say things that I enjoy reading. People can have a bad day or get snippy and this doesn't mean that this is someone you'll never want to deal with again. I think the thing is if you choose to become a part of an online community you recognize that there are people that will annoy you and you deal with it -- in whatever way works for you. If you can't deal with it (sometimes I can't) you walk away.

I like the board the way it is. For some reason, I don't seem to have a problem ignoring that which I'm not interested in reading. I'm curious why others seem to have this difficulty.
For those who do have this problem, I have a question: when you go to a dinner buffet, do you eat everything in sight?

God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

Mon, I agree with you totally.
Ren, you are driving me mad. It was partly in reply to Ludwig dude thingy that he thinks chaning the board will change the people. Obviously saying come on people won't work. I said however things will get better when people start to get things to say and that every board has peaks and troughs. It is normal and nothing to worry about. Just give it time and things will pick up.

It's not that I'm personally bothered by it that much.
But I do see it as a tad illogical to actually have these different 'rooms' with different 'rules' in the one hand, but then admit in the other 'Well, we can't 'really' make these rooms work as they should, so were going to have to go with ignore features. Or threaded views'.
That's effectively asking people to create their OWN forum rooms - with their own effort. What's the point in having the rooms?
The Celestial forum says it is heavily moderated. I'm saying: "Fine - lets actually DO that.".
