Fox is still the leader on cable news, and CNN is only barely keeping pace with average viewership. much of CNN's present numbers, if you will read the article, are based upon people who are channel surfing from station to station and stopping at CNN periodically. That inflates the numbers. Check out where CNN resides in the ratings when put into competition not only with FOX, CNBC, and MSNBC but with CBS, ABC, and NBC. They've been near the bottom forever.

But who cares. They're coverage is legendary for its self censorship, politicization, and intellectual fluffiness, but that only puts it in the same class with all the other members of the old media.

Personally, I watch CNN just for Christi Paul........woof!

(As an aside, Fox News is still tops and has really ramped up the blondes lately. Megyn Kelly is distractingly hot.) Face it, this is one of the reasons why we watch a certain channel.

LOL

Seriously? Dennis Miller is as funny as a malignant tumor. If pretentiousness, obscurity and attempting the look of intellectualism (while failing miserably) is supposed to be funny, I guess he's hilarious.

In defense of Maher, everything we know about human cognition says he isn't. Human thought is dependent on brain function. Thinking it possible the person in a true vegetative state is "working out a crossword in his head" is nearly on par with wondering the same of decomposing bodies.

That said, I would agree that Maher often attacks religion in naïve ways. While I think one of the more problematic aspects of our culture is the use of faith to shield bad ideas from much needed rebuke, something that Maher laudably fights, he isn't doing atheists any favors with his slurs and borderline non-arguments. He makes for a handy symbol of atheists for those who wish to attack them. He has little in the way of substantive, cogent arguments against religious faith compared to his rhetorical broadsides, holds a variety of totally unhinged views, lives a libertine lifestyle, and is smug. Yes, Maher does hold a lot of awfully ignorant opinions on a variety of topics. My personal favorite bad idea that he likes to pimp is his anti-vaccination views.

Dennis Miller is clearly far more intelligent and funny than Maher. Maher uses his comedy act as a means to push his wack job agendas. He even tries to mimick "the news" skit Miller created and performed so well on SNL.

He's clearly more intelligent? He's clearly funnier? Well, if you say so.

Whack job agendas? Wow.

I will say that he clearly is in disagreement with you.

All I can say is that Bill Maher still has a pretty sizable audience after all these years. I haven't seen Miller since he got the boot from Monday Night Football (although admittedly, he could be doing something now and I wouldn't know it because his comedy was always like General Conference to me; a chance for someone who thinks he has some sort of intrinsic superiority over others to drone on to nobody's delight but their own... well, and a few crazed fans).

I was not aware of Bill Maher being against vaccination. If he's on the anti-vaccination bandwagon then I'd have to say that's one area where I decidedly disagree with him. Other areas, where I've seen his clips and interviews, I agreed with him on to a very high degree. I don't actually watch his show, though I have watched it a few times in the distant past. I've seen quite a few clips of his shows, most recently on youtube and whatnot.

Amen to that!

I think Miller has a cable gig, and I think he is more right leaning than Maher. I could be wrong.

Nope, you are correct. Miller has a definite lean to the right. I also think he's funnier than Maher. He did have a cable show, though I don't know what he's up to now.
