Yeah, Sunrider sells herbal "food" products. I put food in scare quotes because they consider "food" to be packets of herbal powders, or capsules filled with herbal powders. My wife buys the two kinds of herbal drinks that they sell, one a powder you mix with water, and one that comes in tea bag form, and little bottles of Stevia-based sweetener. She also buys some powdered herb capsules and baggies and whatnot to make "shakes" from. The sweetener isn't bad, and is gaining traction in health food circles.
I don't mind the herbal drinks she buys, I only mind the cost, and I doubt the health claims made by the sellers. I'm fine just drinking water, and much, much cheaper herbal teas. I also very much doubt that the herbal powders are nearly as healthful as they claim. In the end, it's possible that Sunrider is of some benefit to people who use it, but it's at least two to four times as expensive as it ought to be. There's no way in hell people should be paying several hundred dollars a month for their herbal food supplements. That's just crazy. I will grant Sunrider has had more staying power than some other MLMs, since it's been around for at least twenty years or more. I wish to FSM that it had gone under years ago, however.

Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

Mormonism itself is a multi level marketing scheme. A small elite that profits from the dreams and gullibility of its "downline". Add that to social networking, get-rich-quick mentality and a general lack of business ethics and you have a recipe for MLM.

If anyone out there knows me, and is into MLMs, do me a favor and keep it to yourself. I seriously don't want to know about it, I don't want to buy anything, or get involved with the "business", or whatever.
Never fear Sethbag, have I got the deal for you. It is an easy step by step program guaranteed to have your finances back on its toes and your wife kissing your feet forever. Its a video called "How to avoid scams." Just send $59.95 to:

You think the MLM scams are annoying? Just wait for the student sales jobs to pickup in your area in the summer.
They are like the little cellphone booths in the mall. They lure you in to sign confusing contracts quickly so that you're stuck with them for years. The summer sales stuff includes pest control, security systems and much more.
It is big with students looking for quick bucks in the summer. They actually can make a lot of money quickly. The con is that they don't think of the people they are screwing over when they peddle their horrible money sponge products. Sadly, tons of RMs get lured into doing it. All the companies are setup like MLMs, too. It is the big thing for students to do and RMs go for it easily.
Google 'summer sales security' for a quick peak at what it is.
Edit: It's not fair for me to give my biased opinion and sour judgments. But you have to know that I hate people selling junk for such huge profit margins that it is sickening. If you don't mind that, like probably the majority of people, then I guess there is no hurt in summer sales. The culture that currently surrounds it, however, is enough to make a person gag. There is legitimate opportunity (a lot of friends have done it and seen great success) but I think the ethics in the industry are beginning to lack big time as its popularity increases.

When I was a young adult, I went through a MLM phase. I'm actually very grateful for that experience. It's given me the ability to look any salesman straight in the eye and tell them "no" as if it's exactly the only thing in the world they want to hear.
But yeah... I think it appeals to the Mormon mindset because they are a people willing to sacrifice logic for a pile of wet dreams.

Last summer we had four separate sales people from out of state show up on our doorstep. They claimed that they were part of a program to help disadvantaged young adults get some critical sales skills, so they were shipped out here from Chicago, New Jersey, Texas (I can't remember the other one). One spitfire got prickly with me because I wouldn't buy magazines despite my acknowledgement I thought it was a great program that allowed them to get this experience. I told him I had discontinued the use of magazines/newspapers years ago and got all of my information on the internet because it was paperless and therefore better for the environment. He told me that they had come to Utah because the Utahn's were more charitable than other places and would be generous to those in need. I then told him I would be happy to support his cause if he would give me a website, a name, a physical address or phone number that I could directly donate money. No way, no how. What a ripoff.

Mormons love MLM scams because Mormonism itself is a giant, cosmic MLM scam!
Think about it: There's a down-line of future gods, and every Mormon man who achieves godhood brings more exaltation to his up-line god. Then, the new god gets his own planet and starts work on his own down-line. It's Celestial Amway.

I'm sorry, Merc! I repeated the point you'd already made. My bad. That's what I get for not reading the whole thread before posting.
You were spot on. You can rest assured you're right when I agree with you. ;)
