Jersey Girl, I got this documentary from ebay a little less than a year ago. I'd suggest it if you want to watch something without the love story and hollywood hype.

Lab rats! I have to wait until later to watch it! When I do, I'll post impressions though.

Yes, I know that some of the quotes are taken out of context, yes I know it's a fictionalized dramatization.

Should I still watch it and why?

Sure. But you'll find it's pretty poorly made and extremely over the top. The acting is bad, the writing is bad. The story is predictable (I mean the parts that shouldn't be). It's a one star movie.

I think it is worth seeing for the content and church history that is not discussed among the members;

There's also some background that's interesting regarding W&A and the endowment, although I imagine they mixed a little 20th century stuff with 19th there.

I'll probably watch it---or more accurately, fast forward through it (the way I watch a lot of movies). I saw that it was available on my cable pay per view thing, too, just today.

I don't expect much. I'd read that all of BY's dialog comes directly from the JOD, but there are statements made by his character in the trailers even that just obviously aren't. Plus I saw an interview with the screenwriter on YouTube that was miserable---a clear "EV agenda" or whatever you want to call a religious mormons-aren't-christian oversimplificatin. Ugh. Still I'm curious to see it for historical reasons.

I watch a lot of things I think will be crap, though. I consider it part of my professional work: I need to know the things my students will reference and be familiar with so I take a look at alot of Hollywood dreck. Also, I write/teach about popular culture so I need to have as wide as possible of grasp of it: of things I don't necessarily like or think are great. Also, I just plain read/watch A LOT. I see a ton of HK/Asian film, for example, because I'm interested in Asian pop culture. I flip through a great deal of it, too, but I think that's almost become the dominant "reading" practice in popular culture anyway.

Oh, hana! Let's get you exalted! I've got the film on right now, but I can re-wind in order to see you exalted! I know about the W&A content. I will not discuss any type of ceremonial content on this board.

I wouldn't even put it in a category with "Hollywood dreck." It's really in a category all by itself, and is not typical Hollywood fare or even much connected with Hollywood.

Christopher Cain, the father of Dean Cain who played Superman on the TV series "Lois and Clark," directed, produced and co-wrote, and even cast his Superman son in the role of Joseph Smith (seen of course only in flashbacks). He's not some undercover exmo; he made the film ostensibly to note that religious extremism and terrorism have occurred on our own soil and at our own hands. I don't think he really succeeded in that venture. When I saw the film, I was one of only two people in the local theater.

The members of the Baker-Fancher party are portrayed as Christians, which is not inaccurate. However, the polarization between black and white, good and evil really borders on caricature. I suspect Cain's point was to portray the victims as innocents; his hand could have been somewhat lighter in this regard without losing the point.

Liar! You're just saying that to lie, which is just typical for all you anti-Mormons, since you don't have anything better to do with your lives than to make up lies and sin and be minions.

Bwahaha.

Exaltation.
