Oh brother. Is anyone else's ward doing this "mock" disaster thing? We aren't supposed to buy anything for 2 weeks... no food, no gas, nothing. We're supposed to live as if we were in the midst of a disaster. Obviously those of us whose jobs require mobility aren't participating like others in the ward. Some of the ward is really getting into it (we're mostly farmers, and winter isn't a busy time). Anyway, someone told the local press, and I guess we're going to have some ward members interviewed on the news tonight.
Must be a slow news day.
My ward is going to be on the news tonight

Your post cracked me up, Harmony.
I'm glad you're not participating, for your own sake. Those other folks can knock themselves out.
Slow news day, indeed!

My participation is limited by my job anyway. The way I've "participated" is by having dinner out every night. A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do! Although we did use only what we had in the house for Sunday dinner, which was no big deal anyway. I'm out of bread and the milk's on the last gallon, but Sweet Pickle is getting by with biscuits and frozen waffles. LOL

Make sure the news cameras get the "millenial fervor" in the eyes of the particiants. This is so frigging stupid.
Its an example of how Mormonism reinforces fear in peoples lives.

It's not the church that reinforces the fear here. We're surrounded by chemical plants and nuclear waste sites. Fear is in the water we drink and the air we breathe.
And to be quite fair, I think the ward members are just bored, so this is a fun little exercise to alleviate the normal cabin fever.

My mom's ward did something like this last year (in California). They were supposed to live on their food storage for two weeks. I can't remember if she went along or not. Plus they practiced their emergency calling tree (not a bad idea at all).
I may be going to hell in a bucket, babe / But at least I'm enjoying the ride.
