He still had to accomplish his mission. I would assume there was more light between him and the treasury than there was outside in complete darkness. Wouldn't you think that Nephi would have surmised there was some kind of security apparatus between him and the plates?

That's my whole POINT, MG. If the security apparatus between him and the plates was such that dressing up in Laban's clothes was an adequate disguise - then the BLOOD on those clothes would also have been obvious.

Go back and read 1 Nephi 4:19. What were the garments that were mentioned? How were they worn? Wrap around? Crew neck having to come off over a then non-existent head? How would they have been separated from Laban's body? How difficult would it have been to remove any blood that was on the armor which was then worn outside the garments? How much blood actually got on the armor? On the garments?

I think it is difficult to project your vision of what this episode looked like with what it actually did look like.

I think it was a brown and white plaid body armour with pink and lavender threading.

Well, perhaps Laban's clothes were nothing more than a waterproof thong.
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

Maybe Laban just killed people all the time, so his clothes were constantly stained with blood.

Maybe clean armor would have been the red flag, not bloody.
