Would the Country take Joseph Smith seriously as a candidate

Post by _karl61 »

I think the issue and anger some have with Joseph Smith is that it's like working on his presidential campaign for decades and then finding out he was cheating on his wife - something like Bill Clinton, had a questional role in a bank failure and skipped town when things looked bad, and some would say he was a pathological liar. Now it's not as hard to be President than to be a prophet of God. Joseph Smith was no Lincoln, Washington or Adams; could not even hold a candle to them. They did not have a past like his and were more likely qualified to be the leader of a religious group more than he was. Joseph Smith would be cut down quickly in the 1840 press if he got even twenty miles close to Washington D.C and and some thought he might have a chance. If he could'New Testament be President because of his shady deals could he then be taken seriously as a Prophet.

No before, no now. Jim Jones and the hale bopp nutjob compare in wackyness to joe. Joe ran for president before and was made to be the fool he was.

I hate to say it, but if this country is willing to elect Bush, they could potentially elect anyone. At least with Joseph Smith, he'd be too busy nailing every member of the cabinet's wives to bother with Iraq.

I wonder if my older brother still believes that W will do down as one of the greatest presidents in US history? (Yes, he actually did say that.)

What's the matter? Bush is better than any democrat who ever applied for the job over the last century or more.

I have a friend who said essentially the same thing about four years ago. I'll be seeing him soon, and am curious to find out what his opinion is now.

Wouldn't it have been less misleading to just admit you don't follow politics?

I'll wager I follow it as much or more than you. The difference is that I don't live by it.

Even currently, approx. 30% approve of him overall. That blows my mind.
