Latest LDS PR stunt: The Jesus H. Christ website!

In an attempt to pull themselves out from under the mountain of doubt caused by Mitt Romney's failed campaign to save the thread hanging constitution, LDS Inc has foisted the following facade on their website: http://Jesus_H._Christ.LDS.org

Nelson proudly declares the reason for the different view that LDS has on Jesus.. "Why, it is because Jesus appeared to Joseph and taught Joseph! Unlike the rest of the churches out there that Christ has never visited!"

Nice try LDS Inc, but again, the fact remains, you cannot be a Christian in the Mormon church without FIRST accepting Joseph Smith as a prophet. This will always keep the other xtians away.

I think the site is very well done and a good effort by the PR firm. The church's marketing/PR firm does have some really great web designers in my opinion.

However, if I were the PR firm, I would offer the suggestion to get rid of the picture of Christ returning. This painting of a 6'5 Caucasian man with a reddish goatee, and all white and delightsome angels seems rather odd. It seriously has to go.

Not exactly. The LDS Church of the 21st century would view someone who has not accepted Joseph Smith as an apostate Christian; but a Christian none the less. Assimilation has not always been the desire of Mormonism, but it certainly is their desire today. Hence, this new website.

This will always keep the other xtians away.

Always? Christians (of the mainstream flavor) sometimes convert to Mormonism, do they not?

Pretty thin and circular, in my opinion. I'm assuming (hoping?) they'll flesh it out further as time goes on. It needs a lot more substance to attract those who are non-LDS Christian, since there's a lot more material they could rely on to have a substantive website.

The Joseph Smith website has a lot more on it.

I thought it was interesting that Nelson tried to quote the passage from memory, but had to look down a couple times to read it. I'd bet most return missionaries could easily quote this same passage on a moments notice. I know that I could have.

I think it is unfortunate that the Church isn't led by people who are more educated in Religious Studies. They are responsible to represent the official doctrine of the Church, for pete's sake! :)

Education is neither needed nor desired for our leaders, at least in Religious Studies. The very idea! Such a thing would surely cause the spirit to depart.
