The job of a prophet
The job of a prophet
Just thinking out loud... after reading the Wiki page on Nostradamus, I was wondering if anyone can think of instances when prophets of any church have predicted or warned of some forthcoming event accurately. I remember a lot of GBH's "prophecy" included the dangers of gambling, porn, and unfriendliness towards others, but has any prophet ever, well, made a statement that an ordinary human could not have made?

Of course! Only Hinck could have spoken against the evils of more than one set of ear piercings.GoodK wrote:Just thinking out loud... after reading the Wiki page on Nostradamus, I was wondering if anyone can think of instances when prophets of any church have predicted or warned of some forthcoming event accurately. I remember watching the replay of the December 2004 Larry King interview with Hinck right after the tsunami hit the Indonesian coast. The interview was taped right before the tsunami hit. What did the great prophet SEERER AND REVELATOR of gods only divine church on earth answer when King asked if he had and revelations?
To build the Mega'nacle.
I wonder if the prophet will be able to forewarn god's (only)people in Zion before the big earthquake strikes the Wastach front?

The tsunami struck Southeast Asia. I think that's outside the Mormon prophet's jurisdiction based on how most of their advice seems geared towards white americans living in Utah.
The Mormon prophet hands out great advice such as stay out of debt, get an education, be a good person, you know the kind of stuff that nobody else is saying.

"We of this Church do not rely on any man-made statement concerning the nature of Deity. Our knowledge comes directly from the personal experience of Joseph Smith." - Gordon B. Hinckley
"It's wrong to criticize leaders of the Mormon Church even if the criticism is true." - Dallin H. Oaks

The Mormon prophets today are really no different than the ones from the early days, they too just repeated things that others had said already and called them divine.
