Noam Chomsky has done a service by speaking concerning the racist reasons on why pot is illegal. He covered the interesting comparrison between making Gin illegal while leaving whiskey legall in england in the past:

don't know if you want me to run through it, but it's an interesting history. Very commonly substances are criminalized because they're associated with what's called the dangerous classes, you know, poor people, or working people. So for example in England in the 19th century, there was a period when gin was criminalized and whiskey wasn't, because gin is what poor people drink.

The question is why they are illegal and why other drugs aren't. As has been noted, why is pot illegal while alcohol is not? Hundreds of thousands of deaths can be attributed to alcohol consumption while trying to find a single marijuana-related death is practically impossible. Does it make any sense at all?

I sometimes wonder, if we were all face to face and I held up my hand, how many of you would tell me how many pink elephants there are........

Yah.... it does have that affect on men... not on me however.... so I just enjoyed myself and to hell with them. ;P
