Technical Support FAQ
If you're having any troubles with the site, before you e-mail me, please read through this thread. Almost all technical problems can be fixed by the steps I'll outline here.
Q) I can't log in!
A) Internet Explorer has strange and mysterious security settings. Don't use it. Ever. Instead, go to http://www.mavfix.com and download Mozilla Firefox. This fox of fire will use it's magical flaming body to burn through all login issues!
If you are still having login issues, try going to http://mormondiscussions.com instead of http://www.mormondiscussions.com. (in other words, take out the www) Clear your cookies first and set a bookmark to this so you're not tempted to type in the www.
Q) I can't create a username!
A) Our anti-spambot script seems to be buggy with Internet Explorer, again due to the strange voodoo of Microsoft "security." First, try cleaning your cache by going to http://www.mavfix.com and downloading Clean Cache. After running that, if you still have problems, download FireFox for it's magical flames.
(Also, see above)
Q) I'm randomly kicked off the site and have to log in again all the time.
A) Again, this is Internet Explorer's fault. Noticing a pattern? Download FireFox.
Certain links will take you to http://mormondiscussions.com, which is an entirely different site to IE, which may log you out. Bookmark http://mormondiscussions.com. (See above)
Q) I'm getting pop-ups from this site!
A) No, you're getting popups from spyware or adware. Go to http://www.mavfix.com to download adaware and spybot. These programs will find 98% of all the bad stuff on your computer. If you still get popups after running these programs, you have a serious situation on your hands and it is vital that you get professional help on your computer immediately.
Q) Where can I get professional help with my problems?
A) There's always the Geek Squad, if you're feeling incredibly rich and want to throw money around. If you find you need computer help often, I would suggest signing up for a membership at http://www.itokhome.com. These guys will completely clean your computer every 3 months. If you just want a quick fix, you can e-mail me. I can fix most anything right over the 'net very quickly. My prices are competitive, and all the money I make will go directly back into Mormon Discussions.
Q) The chat doesn't work!
A) The chat uses the latest Adobe Flash and Javascript to run. You could check for those things in internet explorer, but it's much easier to download Firefox. http://www.mavfix.com
Q) Where can I contact you if this list doesn't solve my problem?
A) My e-mail is keenemaverick@gmail.com. I usually answer my e-mail within the hour, unless I'm asleep or dead.
Q) I want to request a feature/improvement.
A) At the moment, all the work I do on Mormon Discussions is full charity on my part. I would love to constantly be improving this site and adding features, but I just can't afford it. If you'd like a specific feature and don't feel like waiting forever, there is a donate button at the top of every page. Request the feature with a donation, and I'll implement it immediately.
Q) I want to help with the site!
A) I know a lot of you have technical experience and would like to help, but, for reasons outside my control, I must keep the technical side of this site under strict lock-and-key. I don't even let my business partners in. If you would like to help, the best way is to donate. You can also purchase my services in web design or computer repair, and my profits will go back into this site (and tacos). Soon, we will have a store selling Mormon-related books and movies, when that is up, every purchase will go directly back into the site.
Another good way to help is to tell your friends about the site. The more the merrier!
Thank you for your time, and please enjoy Mormon Discussions!

Any better nonFireFox solution yet? I have to log in almost everytime I post and get logged out simply by switching forums.

I think that there is a new version of PphB that is suppose to help this. I remember Keene mentioning this a while ago, but I'm not sure when it will be available. In the meantime, I would seriously suggest that you download Firefox. It is a very reliable web browser that is a lot more secure than Explorer. It's free, so there really is no risk to you, even if you only use Firefox for MDB. MDB does seem to be more compatible with Firefox, overall. I have noticed, lately, though, that I can use Safari while access MDB and it doesn't log me off.

The problem is that the "login" button is redirecting you to http://mormondiscussions.com rather than http://www.mormondiscussions.com.
I've sent a couple of PM's to Keene, but he has not yet responded.
To fix this, try changing your bookmark to http://mormondiscussions.com (take the www out). This should give you consistant cookies. You may need to clear your cookies first.

That does seem to solve 50% of the problem. Thanks.
I still must log on when I come to the site (it's not saved) and whenever I change venues (Celestial, Terrestial), plus the occaisional odd time.

You may want to try bookmarking the board with this link:

Also, when you sign in, do you mark the option to stay signed in? That can also help save time.

Re: Technical Support FAQ
This wouldn't be a "Tech Support" issue per se, but any chance to show how many people are in the chat room while reading the forum?

Re: Technical Support FAQ
Isn't there a box on the internet server software this site uses that could be checked, allowing all links to be opened in their own window?
If I check out a few pages from another site linked in some post, it would make returning to this site so much easier. Don't laugh, it is not all that far fetched that posters might want to return.
