Asbestosman:

If you're a believer in Mormonism, shouldn't those questions raise a red flag that something is seriously wrong?

well, Adam and Eve weren't technically brother and sister since they didn't have earthly parents, but it is assumed their children had incest. If I was an apologist I would say that since incest was an abomination we must assume they did not commit the wicked act of incest. Therefore, there must have been "others" living nearby for Adam's and Eve's children to screw. Nibley called these "others" pre-Adamites. If that's the case, is our sacred bloodline dilluted by the intermingling of seed with the godless pre-Adamites?

I would rather say that it indicates that there is something wrong with the way I grew up understanding these things. Maybe the problems are not any bigger than, say, people who still believe the story about boiling frogs by raising the temperature slowly.

So, in your opinion, what's the real way to understand these things, and which of the brethren are currently promulgating it?

If Adam and Eve were immortal before the fall, then what happened if they didn't drink any water? Since they wouldn't die, would they just stop moving as their bodies kept losing water through breathing? Did they simply not breathe? Also, where did they get energy from? If they wouldn't die by not eating, what would happen? How did they keep from violating the laws of themodynamics?

Who took care of the garden? Why didn't weeds grow there and what counts as a weed anyhow? How did they keep the place looking nice instead of wild?

Did they go through Temple?
Did they go through the veil?
Did he/she have a secret name?
If they went tru Temple, did he play himself?
Did they violate the law of chastity (let alone thermodynamics)?
Did he have any Neanderthal competition?

That's actually a good question. If the story is to be taken literally and as fact, incest had to be a part of it and later it is condemned in scripture.

A certain amount of it is likely allegory (such as the snake and Satan). I just don't know how much is allegory and how much is actual. I know of nobody who claims to have official answers about how much is allegorical.

Well, if you are free to believe some of it is allegory and nobody says how much, then how about all of it?
when believers want to give their claims more weight, they dress these claims up in scientific terms. When believers want to belittle atheism or secular humanism, they call it a "religion". -Beastie
