If that is about as good as it gets, it should be real cause for concern for those who want it to be ancient.

There should be a time stamped post floating around on one of these discussion boards(MAD or here), in which I used a "cognate accusative" quite some time ago. In reference to the church's practice of member friendshipping, I used the phrase, " I vomited a strong vomit". Guess I just find the practice of the prostituting of ones friendship for conversion purposes a bit offputting.

Anyway, I also use similar terms at home, such as "I laughed a strong laugh" and many other similar cognative accusatives when I'm playing around with the kids and being light hearted. I wonder if I should hunt down that post of mine I mentioned for DCP. Maybe I've got some Arabic blood in me? Ha ha....

I just showed my daughter a couple sentences of the opening post. She laughed when she read "I hit him a great hitting", because she knows that is exactly something I would say. She laughed even more when I told her that some researchers thought they had found some ancient Arabic text because of this peculiar sentence structure. I didn't have the heart to tell her it was the Book of Mormon! Well, that can be a daddy - daughter discussion for another day....

Turns out I'm quite the cognate accusative pro:

I have been using this pattern of speech for years now :). I wonder if MAD has a thread going on about this?

Funny.

I remember the very first "personal message" I got at FAIR. It was from you around November 2006. You wrote that you "laughed a strong laugh" because of something funny I posted.
