I agree that this one actually looks like him, the other one didn't really. Some speculate it's really Samuel Smith. Either way, it's interesting. Good looking man, helps explain all the plural wives.

We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.
Huh, that's actually a fairly good photo of him. I think he looks better in that photo than the other ones the LDS Church uses. I can't get the picture to enlarge for some reason, though. It looks like a page of hieroglyphics when I attempt to view it.
I like this new picture. It is more like the handsome Joseph Smith we have grown accustomed to in the Church movies, rather than those earlier portraits.
The provenance of this picture is very strange. Some guy has a job looking through books and writing summaries. Looks through a books of old photos, sees one he thinks looks like Smith. That's it. He notices it comes from New York and was acquired in 1845. Can't read the descriptive text, its in Portugeuse.
That's it.
Some guy thinks he coincidentally stumbled upon an a photo of Joseph Smith.
It doesn't much resemble any of the pictures done in his lifetime if you ask me. That and the "miraculous" provenance, make me skeptical.
