Are Monson's Prophetic powers being tested??

Post by _Boaz & Lidia »

In expected fashion, the LDS church has trotted out a poor young girl and her fight against an aggressive brain tumor in an utterly shameless PR stunt to show that Tommy Monson is a real nice guy.

Apparently, the Mormon based Make-a-Wish foundation this young LDS girl three wishes, one of which her parents claimed she wanted to meet with Tommy himself.

LDS.ORG story:New Church President Serves in Public and Private Settings
A recent visit made by President Monson to 5-year-old Sadie Huish from Saratoga Springs, Utah, illustrates this side of the Church leader. Sadie was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor three weeks ago and has started radiation treatment. During this time the Make-A-Wish Foundation granted her three wishes, one being to meet President Monson. News of Sadie’s condition and request arrived at President Monson’s office, and a visit took place soon afterwards.
KSL Story: 3 wishes granted for 5-year-old girl
Sadie wanted to meet President Thomas S. Monson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her father, Zac Huish, said, "She knows all the names of the apostles and the prophet."

Oddly, the photo on the story on LDS.ORG pops up a strict copyright notice if you click on the image... a photo obviously taken by family members as it was placed un-cropped on the young girl's blog Nothing is sacred to LDS INC...

Both stories on LDS.org and the church owned media/TV KSL.com omitted the fact that Monson gave the girl a blessing. I wonder if that was too "weird" for the mainstream media?

Apparently, the spin docs at LDS Inc must have overlooked placing an embargo on the information about the blessing, or the parents decided to ignore it as they posted it in their blog:
President Monson gave Sadie a blessing... there is something very humbling about your eternal companion next to the prophet, both laying their hands on your daughter's head, giving her a blessing...

So then, has the gauntlet been thrown down with this blessing? Will his power be witnessed?
Now all the family can do is wait for the trip to Disney World, where Sadie will get to meet all the princesses, and wait to see if Sadie's prognosis changes. Zac said, "It is advanced. It's not positive, but, you know… Miracles do happen. So that's what we're hoping for.

Of course, as expected, either outcome will put both god and Tommy in a good light. If she dies, god had a greater calling and Tommy gave her permission to go, and if she survives, it is a miracle wrought by the hands of the prophet!

I just find it sad that this poor girl's story is used by LDS Inc to attempt to hide the fact that Tommy is not a very approachable SOB.

The next paragraph mentions a similar story of Tommy visiting with 10 year old cancer victim.
In the case of young Christal Methvin, a 10-year-old who also suffered from cancer, President Monson interrupted a demanding meeting schedule to meet with the young woman. At the conclusion of the visit, the youngster acknowledged, “I just knew you would come,” and he did.
Since they leave off the fact that this visit happened 34 years ago, it almost seems like this is a regular activity for Tommy.

In that story, he visited this 10 year old cancer victim back in 1974 and gave her a blessing also.

She died four days later.

wow

Such cynicism. The Make a Wish Foundation is not Mormon related. It is a wonderful organization that does nice things for kids that are terminally ill. So what if the kid wanted to meet Pres Monson. Would you be as cynically if the kid wanted to meet Hannah Montana and would you criticize Mylie Cyrus for a PR stunt if she visited the kid? I doubt it. This is just another typical egregious bash of the LDS Church on your part.

Funny thing is Monson actually has and does make it a practice to visit the sick, elderly and others with various affilications. This is nothing new really. Too bad you take a nice thing and use it as a club.

Shame on you.

What did you expect? It's Boaz.

And I agree; Make a Wish is not a Mormon agency. Why would anyone think it was?

One can only hope in the human capacity for change.

I read the blog written by her mother and I think what Prez Monson did was really nice whether prophetic or not. It saddens me that such a beautiful young girl could have such an illness and whatever happens I hope all will be well with them.
Just punched myself on the face...
