New Apostle D. Todd Christofferson has a GAY BROTHER!!!

Post by _Boaz & Lidia »

A relative of the newly called Mormon apostle, D. Todd has made a post on a democratic discussion board about Christofferson's Gay brother. Initially she claimed that Christofferson had a gay son...
I am actually very excited about the confirmation of my mom's cousin Todd (as everyone calls him) as the most recent member of the twelve apostles in the LDS church. I was raised in Utah by my liberal mother and openly gay father (yes, they are divorced).

I am a proud liberal and even though it was difficult being raised in Utah, my entire family is thrilled that Todd is now a General Authority. One of the (many) people in my life who speak very highly of him is my father who struggled for years to come out of the closet. You see, Todd has a gay son and my dad found comfort in talking openly with Todd several times about his own conflicts with the church.

Todd never judged my dad and always gave him words of encouragement and hope (especially when it came to the church's view of homosexuality). Todd loves his own son very much and I hope that someday the church will come to accept that a person's sexual orientation has nothing to do with personal choice.

Maybe Todd's appointment will open doors to "enlightening" the LDS view. I have met Todd several times and he is a genuinely nice, loving, sincere person. I get frustrated with those who paint him as "just another rich, white lawyer" when they know absolutely nothing about him. Ok, I just needed to get that off my chest.... Thanks.

She then "corrects" her post..
Todd's brother is gay NOT his son. I am sorry for posting incorrect information.

On another board, some posters said Todd looks and speaks like a gay man...

He needs a small red carnation and a white pocket square - that would secure style but the gay question would remain. That's also a totally posed photo - kind of flexing too .....notice the watch slightly showing and the slight show of the cuff

Don't we all?

I imagine given the distribution of gay men and lesbians in the general population, every general authority has at least one gay family member--that they know about--and who knows how many more that they don't.
The road is beautiful, treacherous, and full of twists and turns.

Yea, Boaz. So what. I have gay family members. Many of us do. What business is it of anyone elses? What are you trying to do by bringing this up...cause trouble for his brother and his family?

Let's see, in a country of almost three hundred million, and with people in the general population who's sexual orientation is exclusively homosexual situated historically at about 3%, and perhaps slightly more, what are the chances of any specific American having either a homosexual sibling or offspring?

Boaz and Lydia, if you haven't already noticed, are not particularly intellectually or psychologically mature individuals. What point can possibly be made by pointing out that a GA has a homosexual family member (or one that is in rehab, or in jail, or who works for Playboy Enterprises), is anyone's guess.

I suppose the bash value of this is the insinuation that Elder Christofferson and his wife have somehow failed as parents, or that their family was dysfunctional in some manner. That, however, would imply that homosexuality could be understood as a psychopathological response or reaction to dysfunctional family dynamics, and the prime directives of PC will not tolerate dangerous thinking of this kind.

I just think it is disgusting that some people promote themselves as enlightened and yet they go around speculating about a person's private business. Boaz, your friends on that board are jerks to sit around gossiping about whether a man "looks" or "sounds gay". What immature, insensitive little creeps. Why do you think we have prejudice against gay people? The obnoxious people on that board are definitely one of the reasons. They should be condemned for adding to the difficulties gay and lesbian people already have to endure for creating and encouraging stereotyping which singles out homosexuals for ridicule.

That was my reaction. Why is being gay a reason for ridicule and whispering? I have a gay nephew; so what? He's a good man, who has a good job, supports himself, enjoys life. Why is his sexual orientation of more interest than his artistic ability or his sense of humor? Who cares if the new apostle has a gay son/brother/whatever? It's simply not important.

On a totally unrelated note, on another board, some people are stupid.
