New MAD Rule

Post by _TrashcanMan79 »

Or is it not that new? First time I've seen it, anyway....

T'pau wrote:The only "Christian" polygamy that I'm familiar enough with to converse about is the FLDS. One similarity with early LDS church polygamy is that it is reported to be carried out by revelation through a prophet. Rulon and Warren Jeffs said it was a commandment from God, and so did Joseph Smith.
Please refrain from comparisons between LDS and FLDS. Thanks. ~Mods

Huh, funny. Mhalcrow was banned earlier for basically saying the same thing.

But, you are not allowed to compare LDS prophets with known criminals. Jeffs is a criminal.

As if there is a difference. (sigh)

Oh yes, there is a difference, God told Joseph Smith to go for it but not Warren Jeffs. :-(

Are comparison's between Mormons and christians similarly prohibited?

Still waiting for Will to back this up...

Mods issued forth this particularly inane edict a while ago, I think around the time Jeffs first really hit the news after being featured on America's Most Wanted, or something like that. They declared it a form of "godwin's law".

It beggars belief, doesn't it? Warren Jeffs' sect is a direct descendant of Joseph Smith' sect, and has retained many aspects of Joseph Smith' construct - in ways even more than the Utahn branch has. And yet it is a taboo subject. Or should I say, that's why it's a taboo subject.

I wouldn't have believed it a year ago, but MAD has devolved into an even more pathetic group as time passes.
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

To me apologetics is not good apologetics if it leaves issues unanswered. I myself don't see Warren Jeffs and Joseph Smith as being the same type of man. But i much rather confront the issue not take offense at such comparisons being made. Now if the person is rude in making such comparisons then i might if a moderator tell them to knock it off.
