The Mormon PR Machine at work.

Post by _neworder »

We all know how the Church does not like to be called the "Mormon Church" but at the same time they don't want anybody to be called the "Mormon Church" or a "Mormon Sect" or "Mormon" anything. The PR guys at LDS HQ get all worked up when the press uses the term "Mormon" with any kind of break off sect of Mormonism.

Case in point is an article that came out online (not sure about the paper since I can't see it) at
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/05/us/05 ... tml?ref=us

What is really interesting is if you do a search on google for Mormon in the news section this article comes up "52 Girls Are Taken From Mormon Sect’s Ranch in Texas" but when you go to the article it reads "52 Girls Are Taken From Polygamist Sect’s Ranch in Texas". When a new news article comes out, google instantly grabs the headline so it can display it on the google news section. So why the change? Why when when the article first came out it was titled "Mormon Sect's" which is true and latter was changed to "Polygamist Sect’s". One has to wonder if the LDS PR Machine is at work here and corrected The New York Times that the word "Mormon" should not be used in conjunction with a Polygamist Sect.

On Google the article is dated April 4th and then on the New York Times Site it is dated April 5th. I wonder if it was edited the day after and the date now reflects the date the article was changed.

Undoubtedly they kidnapped the editor's children and forced them to make the change as part of their ransom demand.

LOL

Guess they did it with these people also

US authorities remove 52 girls from fundamentalist Mormon camp

Google has it listed as "US authorities remove 52 girls from Mormon camp". Even though I agree that the new headline represents the article better and is a good change, it is just interesting to see the Mormon PR Machine at work.
