I fail to see why you find fault with DCP's presentation. Let's face it, he (DCP) told the truth, did he not? He responsibly declined to perpetuate the mythology about the plates being present, a hat being absent, etc., right?
You should be applauding him, not castigating him.
I see your point.
What I find troubling is the fact that he was on several of the groups that oversaw the creation of several of the lesson manuals. If he believes the stuff he spoke on, why is it not reflected in his work?

He may have been over-ruled by more conservative elements.

I just flipped through the Gospel Doctrine Manuals for both the Book of Mormon and the Doctrine and Covenants.
The Book of Mormon manual doesn't discuss how it came to be. There is one lesson on it being the Keystone of our religion but it focuses on testimony and the message as a whole of the Book of Mormon.
The D&C manual doesn't discuss the method of translating the Book of Mormon at all beyond that it happened with a few paragraphs on the witnesses.
I think those who don't teach these classes overestimate how much information is in these manuals. The average lesson is 5 to 8 pages long (with more emphasis on the shorter side) with much of it made up of a quick review of the doctrine to be discussed, scriptures, questions for the class, and examples (most of which I could never use). Heaven help you if you turn to it as a commentary or study guide or use it as a reference on Church History.

All this mopologetic nonsense going on and not one loud critic to stop the madness? No infymouse, no boaz, no scratch or shades? Where is your sense of mission? Your courage?

Both Boaz & I have already weighed in on this issue.

"Finally, for your rather strange idea that miracles are somehow linked to the amount of gay sexual gratification that is taking place would require that primitive Christianity was launched by gay sex, would it not?"

It seems to me that this is a kind of tacit acknowledgment on the part of DCP that this whole translation thing is a major-league factor contributing to apostasy. He appears to be trying to re-write this particular historical understanding/impression via the sheer force of his will. I applaud him for trying to get the message out. Of course, the perpetuation of whitewashed Church renderings and mythology is still going to be a problem.

Oh, you went to the talk and asked DCP questions in person?
Didn't think so. Doing that might involve actually being discovered rather than hiding behind your internet monikers.

With all due respect, was the bookstore really an appropriate forum to challenge or confront Dr. Peterson? If the bookstore wanted that type of discussion, couldn't they invite some critics to engage in a debate or discussion of some sort?
While the believers can find some sort of joy from imagining the critics were too cowardly to actually participate in the bookstore presentation, it seems more like good manners that they didn't go, and they should be commended. Had there been a verbal confrontation, I have no doubt we would be treated to endless complaining about those boorish critics and their complete lack of social skills.

Yeah, we wouldn't want to follow the example of the puerile and tasteless apologist who heckled Grant Palmer at a book store.
“I was hooked from the start,” Snoop Dogg said. “We talked about the purpose of life, played Mousetrap, and ate brownies. The kids thought it was off the hook, for real.”
