Gazelam wrote:Lets take the famous story of Cain and Abel as an example. Cain is a disgruntled exmo. He is cast out from the family of Adam and takes his personal family and others off with him to his own valley or whatever.

His kids grow up in 30 years or so and have an innate desire to worship God. Maybe they picked up on a few things growing up listenign to parents and others about who God is, and they see it through that stained glass. So when they start up a belief system, its distorted and changed from the truth.

example: How many christian churches are there?

How many christian churches were there when Constantine brought them all together to form the Catholic Church in 400 AD? How many were banished and/or executed when they didn't agree with the catholic take on Christ?

See how fast it occurs?

Yes, let's take the story of Cain and Abel as an example, Gaz. Joseph Smith was a disgruntled kid like Cain. Smith was cast out of his church and community and then started up a belief system which was distorted and changed from the truth. How many branches of Mormonism are there?

How many were originally banished, killed, or otherwise threatened when they didn't agree with Brigham Young's take on Christ?

And now, less than 200 years after Smith started his church, four hundred little kids have been removed from their Fundamentalist Mormon families because of abuse. See how fast it occurs?

Yes, that's a great analogy, Gaz! Thanks!

Okay, so any God/gods worship after that date is an offshoot of Christianity???

There are ancient civilizations that predate 4000 B.C., Gaz.

Riiigghhhtt.....

So how does your Methodist sunday class go when they start in with the infallibility of the Bible and the Earth being the center of the universe. Are you able to be a good girl and sit quiet? Knowing all you know?

Just how does it feel to dumb yourself down enough to sit in on those classes?

The Methodists do not do a literal translation of the Bible and do not believe the Earth is the center of the universe.

Gazelam,

Sometimes it's better to be quiet and let others suspect you are a fool rather than speak out and remove all doubt.
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

Moni,

Great links! Notice in the timeline the earliest civilization mentioned is Eridu. A look at the wiki entry states that the people worshipped one God, who shared his authority with mankind. They also state that water was an important feature in their worship, which woudl be no surprise since they had just come through a flood!

Also they were divided into three family groups. No surprise since Noah had three sons, and no doubt assigned them different tasks.

Also it was one of Noahs sons who settled Egypt, and when they wanted religion they aquired it from the writings of Noah. This was later enhanced with the teachings of Abraham, who instructed the Pharohs court after he survived their attempt to sacrifice him.

Your timelines only enhance what I have already stated. A difference of 1,000 years or so is really no big deal.

I don't go to Sunday School classes, Gaz. I've been before, however, and I don't think anyone feels compelled to dumb themselves down while in them.

I've got lots of stinging rejoinders to your doltish reply floating around in my head, Gaz. But, because I have a bit of a soft spot for you, I am refraining. But, don't press me. I'm short on patience tonight.
