I can tell you it is happening in the Singles world. I was quite surprised after my divorce to find out what was going on at the Firesides, Dee's dances, etc. There is a whole weird 'singles subculture' out there, especially in Ut. County. I'm telling you, I only went to a couple of parties (of the 'active LDS Singles' variety) and there wasn't any alcohol, but there were plenty of people doing whatever in the bedrooms. It was kinda creepy.

Are you actually denying that Mormons feel morally superior to "gentiles" who engage in such activities as smoking, drinking, fornication and masturbation?????

Are you seriously saying this with a straight face????

And calling ME a liar???

Hitting the bottle again, by any chance?

I am unequivocally saying that Thomas S. Monson, or anyone who lives in according to the same moral principles he subscribes to, is morally superior to Hugh Hefner.

And calling ME a liar???

Yes I am, and I'll probably have occasion to do it again.

Hitting the bottle again, by any chance?

No, I'm drinking straight H2O tonight, no chaser.

First, the sight of YOU calling ME a liar is amusing. Of course, your brain may just be addled, I give you that.

I am unequivocally saying that Thomas S. Monson, or anyone who lives in according to the same moral principles he subscribes to, is morally superior to Hugh Hefner.

That is a dodge. I'm not talking about Hugh Hefner. I'm talking about average people who don't believe that it is a "sin" to smoke, drink in moderation, masturbate, or have sex with someone they love.

Are Mormons morally superior to them?

As I've already said, smoking and drinking are not "moral" issues. Let me put it this way, Mormons, or anyone, who lives morally, is in that area superior, or more advanced and competent in that area, than someone who does not.

No fornication? Honesty (were you a missionary -- were you honest?)? Not drinking? What?

What precisely do LDS members think their "high moral conduct" is?

My thoughts on morality is that our mirror neurons play a key role in morality -- that to empathize is an essential component, and that morality evolved through cultural and biological processes (reciprocity). I don't think any religion (or lack thereof) has a market on it.

What say you?

The Mormon view or morality pretty much begins and ends with sex, as in no fornication, no adultery, and no masturbation (though why anyone believes that Mormon boys and men aren't taking the one-eyed monster out for a joy ride with frequent abandon is beyond me--I can't speak for the women). Ladle on a fixation on "modesty," and dollop on top an obsession with abstaining from alcohol, coffee, and tea as moral virtues, and then wrap the whole thing up with "obedience as the first law of heaven," and, viola, you have Mormon moral cosmos.
God . . . "who mouths morals to other people and has none himself; who frowns upon crimes, yet commits them all; who created man without invitation, . . . and finally, with altogether divine obtuseness, invites this poor, abused slave to worship him ..."

Most Mormons view following the Word of Wisdom a moral issue. I understand, with your history, why you may be reluctant to do so.

Aside from that, after all your huffing and puffing and calling me a liar, you have essentially affirmed that my original statement was correct.

Coggins, please tell me what "high moral conduct" is according to LDS. We covered fornication and honesty. What else?

That's what I've gathered, as well.
