I really don't like this first sentence. Not believing doesn't make you not worthy. That is a false dichotomy and one it isn't wise to buy into.

I'd agree with you here, harmony. There are two different senses of being "worthy" to go to a temple, and in the first sense, even a non-Mormon is worthy to be on the grounds, to be in the waiting area, and be in the temple prior to its dedication, just as a non-member of a particular other religion could pretty much go to any other non-LDS church in the world and be "worthy" to be there.

I understand what you're saying, though, which has more to do with the "temple worthy" bit, and again, I think your point is well taken, because a lot of people who do LDS ordinance work aren't entirely sure how much they really "believe." Those who are most honest actually are those who admit their doubts.

The temple isn't a scary place. The grounds are beautiful and quiet. It is peaceful there. It's only if one's heart is in turmoil because of other issues related to the temple that being there exacerbates the turmoil. For anyone else, it's a beautiful building with beautiful grounds.

One thing I noticed a while back is that on the back side of the temple, it's not nearly as pretty. Just lawn, no flowers or shrubs.

Your particular temple is one of my favorites, harmony, and I've only ever been there as a non-member, post-LDS, but think it's nicely done, beautifully landscaped, and very serene.

Some are scarier than others. (*insert favorite pffft smiley here*)
The road is beautiful, treacherous, and full of twists and turns.

No masturbating, either. ;)

My mom, in Provo, in the eighties, was not allowed to have her temple recommend renewed because she DRANK PEPSI. She was told, lay off the Pepsi, and you can get signed off.

Don't worry, though. I imagine things have changed since then.

Well, yeah. It falls under the whole "sexual purity" clause.

The prophet GBH, drunk Cola.

And I believe the current prophet, Monson, happens to love Pepsi. When you don't have standardized doctrines, then you get weird pockets of church opinion.

My mom was a professor at BYU at the time, so it wasn't like she was some kind of borderline personality or something. Our bishop just thought that ANY caffeine was enough to keep you from being temple-worthy.

Then you should be good to go. I was told to fast before attending, so you might do that if you feel like it.

Your mum's bish shouldn't have done that.

I guess he was doing what he thought best. It made her mad, though.

When the anchients said to fast, they didn't mean literally.

Imapiratewasher wrote:Hey, I was talking to my bishop just there, I wanted to go to the temple, but not inside. He told me to prepare for an interview for next Sunday. How does one prepare for a temple recommend interview. I haven't been to the temple for about a yearish. I haven't been to church for a while and he was asking why, I guess I have just been too lazy.

Why do you need a recommend to go to the outside of the temple? This makes no sense to me.

I kinda said, I'd like to go to the temple, even if I don't go in. I can't get there so would have to go with a group. Or maybe I could just save and jump on a bus.

harmony wrote:Why can't you just go? And why do you want to? What do you want to do? Walk around the grounds? Sit in the foyer?

I want to just make sure. Understand where I am at. I want to know and feel. Just double check I am not making a huge mistake.

How do I prepare? Just incase I do decide to go in.
