Ex-FLDS people that I have met say they consider themselves "Mormon". Many choose to join the LDS church after leaving FLDS, I've been told. They certainly identify with it more than with non-LDS churches.
Meh. Most Mormon hymns are just ripped off from other protestant hymns. The ones that aren't are ripped off Mozart and Bach with syrupy, maudlin lyrics added.
Besides, the hymnbook I used was green, not black. I don't know how much you can read into this photo.

This is the LDS hymnbook of my childhood. Doesn't anyone else here remember it? "The Spirit of God (Like a Fire is Burning)" is #213 in that hymnal, as opposed to #2 in the newer one. (If I recall correctly, the newer one came out in the 1980's.)
So now we know where old hymnals go. . .to the LDS hymnal graveyard, in the hands of the FLDS.
The road is beautiful, treacherous, and full of twists and turns.

Looks like a very dark green to me, not black. And the Font and lettering are the same.
And crawling on the planet's face Some insects called the human race Lost in time And lost in space...and meaning
The newer green hymnal is a dumbed-down version of the old blue hymnal. I think they made some key changes in a few songs, eliminating some sharps and flats for the ease of pianists and organists, and also left out several of the better songs, such as one of my favorites, "Come Thy Fount of Every Blessing."

I like there is a green hill far away because it was the shortest. I hated singing.

This is the hymn book that was in use for over 20 years in the church. The green one came out and pissed off the BYU music department. It had watered down most of the arrangements to make it easer to play. They also changed many of the original lyrics without the consent of the authors.
You guys need to get a hold of the red one. It's got "De Camptown Races" in the original dialect.
Gwine to run all night, gwine to run all day.... do da, do da
Our older building was being added on to and as they cleared out some rooms scheduled for demolition, they were giving away what was stored there. Got me a whole bunch of them which we use for FHE.

Yes, I remember it. I still have a copy of it. I liked it better than the green.
