Think about this.. according to Mormon theology there are numerous wives of Elohim and only one Elohim. These wives serve one purpose for the all powerful god, a purpose that any of his wives could fulfill.
Interestingly when this question was brought up in HPG a while back two or three of the brothers said pretty much this. It is because there is more than one Heavenly Mother said they and so we don't discuss her/them because we do not know which one is ours. I wondered at the time if they were thinking about their own future Heavenly Wives.

In my My nonprofessional speculative thoughts I find it would have been likely that the first Gods worshiped were female. This goes back to women using sex to control males by holding out. Temple prostitutes, Fertility Goddesses, etc. The male god came about when the males started gaming the system.

It would screw things up for the men in charge to give equal status to a woman... any woman, including our Heavenly Mother.
