Sratch, I love ya man!
Actions like this keep me coming back to Shady Acres.
A member who feels that they cannot disbelieve would give this respose:
He was speaking for the membership back then AND today.... A true man of God.
To the rest of us fully cogniscent people he speaks outta both sides of mouth.

The answers did serve their purpose. However, went one reflects on such a situation years later, just as we are doing, there is certainly something to be said for up front honesty. Even in admiting to the embarrassment part, for this is both understandable, forgivable and competely part of the human condition.

Like Brigham saying that Blacks will not received the priesthood before the second coming?Gazelam wrote:You teach people what they are ready to receive.
Or Kimball saying that even though Jesus has not yet showed up in his red bath robe to usher in the second coming, black can now receive the priesthood?
Why not have Brigham say something more rational and honest like, "I do not think that neither the black man nor the Mormon white man is ready for the blacks to have the priesthood"
And Kimball saying something like, "Now that the civil rights movement is well established, I think that both the black man and Mormon white man are ready for the blacks to reveive the priesthood."
Or Joseph Smith saying, "The papyrus is a catalyst which help me see WHAT Abraham wrote somewhere else"
Why?
Because these earlier fools made statements which they thought were isolated and would not get widespread attention.
The later fools then had to come along and damage control them into some sort of sibilance of normalcy.
How soon before a reporter asks Tommy Monson to reconcile all of Gordon's "I don't know that we teach that" statements?

Porter,
You obviously got your meat a little too soon and failed to chew it properly. Your choking on it. You should really start over.
Whens the last time you prayed?

We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light. - Plato
