I invited him to lunch sometime this week and said goodbye. I was baking cupcakes when they came in so the whole thing was timed.

Please state what it was you said to the HT's that you were upset that they hadn't responded to.

Mercury is one of the few people here who is probably less well read, less generally educated, and less intellectually substantive than Scratch, and Scratch actually has literary skills and a well developed taste for and ability to debate-albeit in a more shallowly polemical, 60 Minutes-like manner. Mercury, on the other hand, reminds one of a petulant, attitudinalizing adolescent with whom adult conversation is well nigh impossible. The degree to which Mercury thinks he knows and understands various things-while in actuality being something quite near vacuity with regard to many of the issues to which he speaks (as his juvenile language and manner make clear), can be quite startling.
Mercury very clearly never understood or comprehended the Gospel well enough to actually turn against it in a philosophical sense, which is why I've always believed his animosity towards it, as in other cases of which I'm aware, has much more to do with personal issues for which the Church is a deep and penetrating thorn, than with any alleged historical issues or doctrinal concerns.
Mercury's entire manner and disposition are solid evidence that his hatred and bigotry toward the Church and its people, far from being precipitated by any deep and honest intellectual ruminations, are the fruit of deep emotional and psychological baggage he very likely brought into the Church, and, given his inability to "leave the church alone' since leaving it, is still being dragged about.
That he must shift responsibility for his own neurosis and inner demons onto other well meaning individuals who have nothing to do with his own internal spiritual turmoil, is even sadder.
Lets see here, we spoke of what a testimony is and how it is not an accurate method of determining truth.
