It's not like taking responsibility for one's own actions was ever a big thing in the LDS and/or FLDS church. Either lie about it or run.. those are the only two ways of dealing with public scrutiny of one's own actions. This obviously continues today in the FLDS church, and still also in the LDS church at the highest levels (not local levels...)

In some ways the FLDS Church, and to a lesser degree the LDS, remind me of cultural minority groups like the Travelers or Gypsies, who have one set of mores for insiders and a radically different set for dealing with outsiders. The lies are part of a tactic for preserving the group and keeping outsiders at bay.

Well, in the case of the FLDS church, it's easy to see why that's so. A culture that is deceptive at its core would not be open to society in general. The biggest lies that LDS church leaders tell today are about the money.

A few differences: Warren Jeffs never ran for President of the USA, did he? He never looked at old bones and conjured up a story about a white Nephite, did he? He didn't conjur up an entire book about a mythical figure based on an Egyptian funeral text, did he? No one ever brought him bogus plates to translate, did they?
I wonder how this whole thing is effecting the other two FLDS compounds. And how are they surviving day to day, since the gov't has frozen their assets? Whose footing the bill for food, power, gas, fabric for those dresses?

Has there been anything in the news from the other 2 towns? How are they taking this? Are they fearful? Or do they think the authorities in Utah and Arizona still don't have balls enough to do what Texas did? If I remember right, many of the families in UT and AZ are on public assistance. So while Jeffs and his elite in Texas were creating Zion, the American taxpayer was paying the bills. The assets that were frozen... what is happening with them? Does anyone know?
