Hello! I do not believe that masturbation is a sin.
Where in the Book of Mormon does it condemn the practice of masturbation? I know that there are several places in the Book of Mormon where it condemns the practice of Polygamy. However, I am Not aware of anywhere in the Book of Mormon where it condemns the practice of masturbation. Therefore, masturbation is not a sin.

It doesn't, but then the Word of Wisdom doesn't say that drinking hot drinks is a sin either. The sin of me drinking coffee and tea is that I promised not to.

At least there is some foundation in the text for the prohibition. Only by equating sexual activity in general with "impure practices" can one come to the silly notion that masturbation is a sin. And, although this is not pertinent to the argument, I can say that it is easy to avoid drinking coffee. A teenage boy finds it about as easy to avoid masturbation as he does ever stumbling or dropping things. I have heard of some people who manage not to do it, but they seem to me to be the anomalies.

I prefer to live a life of prudence to one of prudery.

Yes, if you can control people's perceptions such that they actually voluntarily do what you want them to do, you have really got something.

Yeah, I can't help but feel a little sad for the absman. (I really mean that).

I can certainly understand the desire to make good on a promise, and I think that's generally the honorable thing to do, but not in the case of a demonstrably bad promise, or at the very least, a promise made based on bad information.

Come to think of it, I just found out a male in the Church had surgery for prostate cancer. THEY'RE TRYING TO KILL US!!!!!!!!!!

Wait, but i thought all males masturbate. I thought some people just lied about it.......how in the world could this study be done?

It's not a binary thing. Some people just do it more often than others. Obviously:

- more than five times = reduced risk
- five times or less per week = increased risk
- zero times per week = LIAR!

I've got an aunt who married, in her 40s, a guy who lives in Alaska doing the survivalist type of thing. They live in a log cabin in the boondocks, that they made themselves. They trap martin for its fur, grow vegetables and catch fish during the summer, have a team of dogs and a dogsled they use in the winter when checking their trap lines, etc. He used to be married to another woman, but she eventually died of cancer. She was eating free-ranging meat, wilderness- and organic-grown vegetables, and freaking Alaskan boondocks salmon, and she got freaking cancer? Wtf? Well, it goes to show that some things are risk factors, but it's just a numbers and odds game.

Somebody lives in the Alaskan boondocks eating all natural and organic food and gets cancer, while some dude drinks beer and smokes a pack a day for 70 years and dies in his sleep at 97 years old from old age. It's not about individuals - it's the fact that, when viewed over a wide enough population, things trend one way or another by a certain percentage. As far as masturbation goes, apparently the trend is that guys who masturbate often tend to have fewer cases of prostate cancer than guys who don't.

I ask you: how could these scientists have known? ;-)
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

Maybe the what study really shows is that those who lie more have a higher incidence of prostate cancer?

Actually the sin is invented. You accuse yourself of sin after drinking tea or coffee because you've bought in to the idea that you were commanded to obstain from them by a person representing a figure who, it turns out, is mythical.

You've only promised a figment of your imagination that you wouldn't partake of those things. And that's a "sin" why?
