And why does the former not bother you as much as the latter?
Having God do it through a flood doesn't seem much different than God merely allowing people to die from other causes when He has the power to stop them from dying. I do not have the power to prevent death the way God does, but I do have the power to choose not to kill and killing isn't something I can do without justifying it over life, liberty, or the like. I can see no logical connection between killing a baby and going to heaven. I mean, if that's a requirement then it wouldn't be heaven at least as far as I'm concerned.

You would travel back in time to kill Hitler before he rose to power, but you would have to kill baby Hitler.
Save a 100 million, but kill one baby.
Yes, but only if there was no other way. Why couldn't I merely kidnap baby Adoph? Maybe I could keep him locked in some dungeon in Austria or something.

Question for Christians who vehemently oppose abortion: Would you get an abortion if God commanded it? Do you see it as any different than killing babies as part of God-commanded genocide?

The flood wasn't simply an unfortunate natural disaster that occurred and for which God withheld his hand, but it was a event caused by God for the express purpose of wiping out everyone on earth, with the exception of Noah and his group. Gas chambers were Hitler's means of mass extermination. God used the flood.
God . . . "who mouths morals to other people and has none himself; who frowns upon crimes, yet commits them all; who created man without invitation, . . . and finally, with altogether divine obtuseness, invites this poor, abused slave to worship him ..."

That brings up another taboo question for people in general: Is suicide justified to prove your faithfulness or to gain a reward in heaven? What about heading into a "suicidal" situation (fighting a battle you know you'll lose and will die in)?

Some of us doubt that the flood was global. I also tend to think that the flood was more like other floods we have although this one may have been caused by the black sea or something like that.

Whether it was global is irrelevant. The key point is that according to the Bible, God caused the flood for the express purpose of wiping out the human race. If we were playing Clue, the answer would be: God, on the earth, with the flood.
