Well, Dude, you should know you can't compare Joseph Smith to Hitler. That is a BIG no no.

Of course I didn't say "Joseph Smith was like Hitler" or vice versa. I don't think they are alike. If people thought a little more carefully about what I was saying maybe they wouldn't be so offended. It may not even apply to cdowis, but I don't know him that well so I would say what the limits of his beliefs are.
Well, whatever.
Well, whatever.

Dude:
"If people thought a little more carefully about what I was saying maybe they wouldn't be so offended."
Yeah. This could apply to every interaction everywhere. Too bad it doesn't work out that way.
Re Hitler, I was saying I thought you're not even allowed to say that name over there or a thread gets shut down. (Unless your initials are DCP, I've noticed, lol).
I think the defenders of the faith there are perhaps quite battle-weary and they have common triggers that elicit the strong Defend reaction. Mere sight of "Hitler" and "Tal B" and "suicide bomber" and etc will set off the anger and defensiveness, at which point no information is incoming so no thought processes are activated.
for what it's worth, I actually see their point about how prophets are not expected to be perfect, except by exmos maybe. In fact, prophets and kings and leaders and people in the Bible are demonstrably imperfect. One of the major themes of Christianity is that we are all imperfect, yet "God uses us anyway". Is it something that BICs are taught - that the prophet is perfect? Because I see that statement all the time - Joseph Smith was [this, that, the other] so that proves Mormonism is false. I don't know of any Christians who claim the prophets are perfect. Of course, claiming that someone is a prophet can be a bit dicey.
Sorry too, I thought the "iron-clad mockery" comment from the mod was pretty funny. :)

That seems to be the direction the church is taking. Omitting the unsavory actions of Joseph Smith failed to keep them hidden due to great and abomnible information whore of the earth(Internet/google).
There only option is to go with a very bold and brash approach of comparing his so called restoration work to his other actions and mistakes in his life.
The supposed restoration of the church Trump's all. Screwing teens, cheating on his wife, swindling money, threatening the US government, spouting of stupid things like zelph and kinderhook, stealing ideas from the masons, screwing his friends wives, destroying printing presses, participation in the occult, etc ,etc ... All of that is acceptable losses because he brought back Jesus Freaking Christ!!!!
Smith could have sacraficed human babies and it would not matter to his cult members!

Well, here's the problem. A tiny amount of disbelief or just a smidgen of skepticism will keep you from receiving personal revelation about the Book of Mormon's truthfulness, but rampant promiscuity is not enough to prevent revelation including restoration of profound truths. The disparity is thundering.

Temporary for me .... and still waiting to be restored
The Dude wrote:I don't know if it's temporary or permanent. Probably temporary.
I've been banned over there twice. First as Alex for two weeks and I tried several times after the two weeks were up to start posting again but its never worked. I guess it looks better for PR to say its a temporary ban when they really meant for it to be permanent. Then I came back as Alex71va and they let me stay. However shortly after Huckabee won the Iowa primary there was alot of negative words being expressed on MAD about this Arkansasian. I remembered how the Mormons treated Arkansasians 150 years earlier in Southern Utah. I commented a wonderment over whether some of the MADers thought that the LDS members could've prevented the Huckabee problem if his ancestors would've been MMM'ed. I meant to delete the comment a few minutes later but forgot as in real life activities got me distracted. By the time I came back to it in the evening the MAD moderators had already banned me.
Will they let you back on? Right away if you use a different username. But unless they're tipped off about their policy of "its just temporary" publicly while quietly making it permanent then its permanent banishment for "The Dude". The grand caravan of Mormon apologetics moves forward ;)
