THe worst thing about it was it sucked.

Transformers was pretty awful, naughty bits aside. Half the fun of the old series was the plotting of the villians. These villians didn't even speak ! Lots of lost potential, and marketed to the wrong audience.

My kids will never see it again.

Merc,

Gaz, I will never get you. Honestly. I mean, come on. You got riled up over THAT? This is why Mormons hate sophisticated movies (not transformers, that was a dash for cash) and LOOOOVE disney. Its like guzzling corn syrup.

I took my 7 year old and 9 year old, and their 6 year old neighbor friend. Is that the appropriate age group to take to a masturbation conversation? It was marketed to that age group, but it carried the pg-13 rating. If this is what I can expect from a pg-13 film marketed to kids, then I'm not taking my kid to these films.

Disney is hit or miss for me.

The Seven Samurai is probably my favorite film, does that count as sophisticated? And as an added bonus, my kids can watch it.

I enjoyed the robots from my childhood and was excited to take my kids to see the latest version, something small to bond over. Sure it was pg-13, but really, they are marketing it to kids so how bad could it possibly be? Its probably just for the fighting.

What we got treated to was a robot who transformed in front of the kids and shouted "What up bitches", follwed shortly afterwards by one of the robots "urinating" on a mans head. But the best part was the 2 min long conversation bewteen the main characters mother and himself over how its ok to mastrurbate and he doesent need to be ashamed.

My kids wont be seeing PG-13 movies again.

I think the folly in the church's blanket stand against R-rated movies is the blind trust it places in the hands of the ratings board -- the MPAA. When my kids were small, I always wanted to know exactly what was in a film so I could judge for myself whether I would allow them to see it, no matter what it was rated.

I don't know if it's around still, but I used to use a site that reported in detail what was in each movie. It would list every instance of colorful or disrespectful language, drug use, nude scenes, scary scenes, etc. (for example, "7 S-words; 4 F-words, once as a verb, once with mother; one 9-second sex scene under covers, no private parts visible").

Iron Man is rated pg-13. I hear it is good with the exception of an opening sex scene. Has anyone seen the film? How bad is this opening scene? I heard its under the covers and just kissing. Whats the verdict on appropriateness for kids?

Great movie. We went with our 14yo daughter Saturday. Don't recall squirming over the tryst with the reporter - If I recall correctly, she's shown straddling him in her underwear for a few seconds. But I wouldn't have taken young kids because of the violence. Most of it's cartoonish, but the part with the terrorists and the torture is somewhat disturbing, I think. Maybe that's just me. A lot of parents seem to be more concerned about sex than violence. I'm the opposite. One is a completely natural part of living and loving, the other is antisocial and harmful.

To be honest, that was irresponsible if you're concerned about content. If you're considering taking kids that young to a PG-13 movie, you should pre-screen it first, instead of taking them to it sight-unseen and then complaining about it. Just sayin'.

But I want to be perfectly honest with you. There is one ingredient I added that is not usually found in brownies. I got that ingredient from our own back yard.

I thought the story was about to take a different twist ... I was hoping he'd added some mj to the brownies.

I was totally thinking they were going to be hash brownies. I thought the guy reading the letter was going to start to get high, freak out with paranoia and that would be the object lesson.

But yeah, it was a complete piece of cheese. I wonder why these kinds of stories always sound so moronic. Can't a good writer come up with one, or is it that good writers are too smart to think anyone should be impressed with those kinds of stories?

The real problem here, or course, is that the more you hide stuff from your kids, the more curious they will be, and they just end up being far more rebellious then they would have been if you'd just been up front with them in the first place. I say, let the kids eat crap, as long as you're there to supervise. Better that than them sneaking off and overdosing on crap.

I think the Dad in the initial post was using dog poop in the cacophonous sense, instead of describing how he had really added the small bud-like leaves from a cultivated variety of the hemp plant. The rest of the story about pg-13 movies was doggerel, since he and the missus wanted dibs on the brownies themselves.

Transformers was a pretty crappy movie. It has great special effects, of course, and I use the opening scene of the helicopter blowing up the US base in Kuwait to show off my 52" lcd, nice surround-sound stereo, and now-obsolete HD-DVD player. But the writing was just awful. I could go on and on and on about how bad the writing was, but I'll just say "it was crap!" and let that suffice for now. That said, I liked watching it the first time. It's just a somewhat entertaining, visually stunning crappily-written movie.

You took a 7, 9 and a 6 (!!!) year old to see a PG-13 movie? What, you didn't want them to throw tantrums?
