Do you believe the view held of many mainstream Christians that we are born of sin and are children of Satan?

Unsure...but your poll question suggesting we are children of Satan is off in my opinion. From what I've picked up in the Biblical narrative sense we [being descendents of Adam and Eve] carry basically a genetic trait [bad word, but go with it] for sin which we must atone for at every generation in order to gain Heaven.

Ha.

(I don't know why your image doesn't show up, but maybe it just doesn't want to be hotlinked. I can get it to come up with the address.)

Yeah, that's the paragraph:

Extraterrestrial beings and original sin

In an interview, entitled "Aliens Are My Brother", granted to L'Osservatore Romano, the Vatican newspaper, Father Gabriel Funes, director of the Vatican Observatory, stated: "In my opinion this possibility (of life on other planets) exists"; "intelligent beings, created by God may exist in outer space" and "some aliens could even be free from original sin" concluding "there could be (other beings) who remained in full friendship with their creator".[23]

One thing that can cause confusion about a specific idea such as original sin is that different people may draw different conclusions from it. I believe in origal sin. It seems a fairly obvious thing based upon human behavior. I do not conclude from that that unbaptized babies go to hell. I realize there are people who have believed they do. I think they are wrong.

I also doubt that babies look any less innocent to me than they do to others. Obviously they are not doing wrong things. They are as innoent as humans are in this life. However if only fifty percent of babies ended up sinning it would seem like their condition is not yet linked to sin. The matter that babies all go forth and sin as they grow older indicates they are involved in a problem from the start even though it is not yet active.

By the way I am certain that it has nothing to do with sexuality or the legitamacy of their parents relationships.

I think it might be more accurate to say, "there are people who have believed that there are those who believe this."

I'm not aware of any mainstream Christian religion that believes that unbaptized babies go to hell. Limbo, maybe, but even that's been tossed out.

Mormons believe that those who are not baptized by their own perceived proper authority cannot inherit the Celestial Kingdom. However, to say that this means that they believe that those who are not baptized LDS "go to hell" would be inaccurate.

I don't think these are even questions.

Satan who?

Sin? Sin?

We are born after a period of gestation in a mother's womb, after being started off with the joining of two gametes, and the availability of the necessary hardware and nourishment for the cell so formed to reproduce and multiply.

Unless you're joining the very long list of religions and religious people who somehow seem to imply that the female birth canal is itself disgusting and evil, I'd say "born of sin" is a non-question simply because it has no meaning. Babies aren't born of sin any more than they are born of communism, or they are born of liberalism, or conservatism.

And Satan? You mean that invisible magic bogeyman that Christians like to scare everyone with?

The question "Is Satan our Father?" has exactly the same ontological status as "Is Thor our Father?" or "Is Zeus our Father?"
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

Well, that's a whole different phrase altogether. "Born of sin" sounds like it has nothing to do with the concept of original sin, but has to do with doing the nasty. Which again, is something else. The more puritanical of religions might have a sense of that, but it has nothing to do with original sin.
