I find this thread funny and a joke. I aimed this thread specificaly at Coggins and am shocked at his reply. So what more can I say?

Of course I knew/know the churches teachings regarding these areas, but it is really good how such a simple thread can prove just how much of a hypocrit Mormons can be.

And perhaps you could stop with the gobbledigook and post a substantive reply to the discussion at hand if you disagree.

Some of the contradictions that Harmony brings to the discussion are also things I have wondered about.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a scriptural or doctrinal reference which stipulates that Jesus was the God of the Old Testament?

Thanks!

If you think that, why do you continue to attend an LDS church? Do you think that the teachings propounded there are true?

I remember repeatedly during the eighties the old ward members would get up and rile against those "damn christians" and how thankful they were that they were not christian.

If you don't like the doctrine in Mormonsim just wait 20 years. It'll conform to whatever is popular at the time while kicking any hard to swallow doctrine in the nuts.

I think Merc meant "rail", as in "railing".

Can't you at least stop smoking that stuff on Sundays? Take a break Merc.

I do not disagree. I disagree with you arguing with me contrary to your first reply in this thread.

I do not disagree with the doctrine, I disagree with Coggins wasting my time by BSing me with crap like, "The Church is not a sect of Christianity, it is the authentic and divinely authorized religion of the Son of God. All of the others are human imitations, without authority and befreft of many doctrines and key ordinacnes." and "Jesus was eternal God, in case you forgot... Jesus was eternal God, incarnate in human flesh.
"

To which I replied a long the lines of (with quotes from talks and conferences), Jesus was the only begotten son of God, Lucifer was his brother, God begat Jesus, LDSers do not accept the "trinity", in my church we are taught we are Christians. I could post them if you wish.

And regarding Jesus being God incarnate, I said "I though Jesus was the SON OF GOD according to LDS Doctrin and that there was no such thing as reincarnation and thus no incarnation, because if Jesus were an incarnation, then I guess his ressurection would have been a reincarnation."

To my OP, you posted:
Droopy wrote:1. If the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the restored Gospel as taught by Jesus Christ and his apostles, containing a restoration of all the power, doctrines, and ordinances lost during the Great Apostasy, and if it is the divinely authorized Kingdom of God on earth with the authority to administer in all of the ordinances and blessings of the Gospel, then it must be "Christian", as its author, head, and central figure is Jesus Christ.

2. Jesus Christ was the firstborn of God, the Father in the spirit world and became a God, indeed, a God nearer to the Father in power, glory, intelligence, and knowledge, than any of the Father's other children in the preexistent world. He was the frist born of the Father in the Spirit world and the only begotton Son of God in the flesh. He was God the Son in the premortal world, and the second member of the Godhead, or Grand Council of Heaven, which organized and created this earth and which administers the Gospel and the plan of salvation to God's children on earth and in eternity. Jesus Christ is the Savior and Redeemer of mankind, and is, in direct relationship with us, the God of the universe of which we are a part.

He was the God of the Old Testament, known by various names, and came to this earth to take on a mortal body. He worked out the great Atonement for all mankind and was then crucified and resurrected, receiving then all power on earth and in Heaven.

This tells me that Christ is NOT the ETERNAL God as you stated. You also should be careful how you use the word WAS. This also tells me that we are in actual fact CHRISTIAN.

So perhaps there are two Droopy's. Wanna make up your mind?

I never asked what is true?, I asked what is LDS Doctrine? I know that I am taught we are Christian and that Jesus is the Son of God, not the eternal God. Perhaps he might become AN eternal God.

I guess I do feel Lucky,

Regards,

There has never been a Great Apostacy, simply because the priesthood, such as it is, has always been present, if one believes LDS mythology. (thinking 3 Nephites here).

Incorrect. Such a conclusion does not mesh with the Church's definition of apostasy.

And there has never been a time when there were no Christians, since Christ's crucifixtion.

How so? 'Christian' is a term for a believer in Christ. The Old Testament Hebrews were christians simply by definition.
