God hates West Virginia

Post by _Mercury »

Is there anyplace to go of great interest in West Virginia? Honestly?

If I were to discuss a place where the mouth to Outer Darkness lies it would be West Virginia.

Speaking of Outer Darkness, (i have to throw a religious connotation in so it should stay in this kingdom) Who would like to share your views on the doctrine of Outer Darkness. In seminary it was described to me as the crystal prison those eurotrash were encased in from Superman.

Lost in time
And lost in space...and meaning

If West Virginia is the mouth to Outer Darkness, then what does that make Newark?

Nevermind.

They never told me that, just told me that Satan and all the evil angels and such will be thrust out into Outer Darkness. I always thought of it as a floating in space sort of thing (you know, like can't do anything except 'exist'), except completely black and full of the agony that you're not in the presence of god.

But they never really talked about it with us, so that's just my twisted imagination with some speculation thrown in.

And I've never been to West Virginia, and no offense but I feel no burning desire to rush there. :)

WV is one of those places you either drive through quickly or fly over. Personally I'd be happy to give them everything in Kentucky east of Interstate 75 as well.

It depends upon what your interests are.

Though not from West Virginia, I graduated from West Virginia University in 1986. I will readily admit to there being numerous examples of the indigenous peoples being perfect stereotypes for what is thought of in the state.

That said, the state itself has much to offer. Glorious mountains, white water rafting to match some of that in the rockies (I've done the Cheat River when it was a solid class V most of the way), beautiful 5 star luxury resorts in the the southern Greenbriar valley area. Hiking in the eastern panhandle and the historic touring of Harper's Ferry is enjoyable. The Shenendoah River is a nice canoe run.

No, there is no real "urban" life in the state. Mountaineer Field becomes the 3rd largest city in the state for football games. The southwest area of the state is rough. Mingo and McDowell County along the Kentucky border are justifiably where the stereotype hillbilly image is (think Deliverance and banjos)

A couple of points:

-Being politically correct we now prefer "Appalachian-American" to hillbilly
-Go Mountaineers !
-WVU has one of the highest number of Rhodes Scholars from US land grant universities that have come from it
-If on the east coast of the US, take time to run the Cheat, New or Gauley rivers in spring, if that is your thing. You won't be disappointed.
-Robert Byrd should be in jail, not the senate.

If I were to discuss a place where the mouth to Outer Darkness lies it would be West Virginia.

Screw you very much :) ........cue banjo music.

It has great white water rafting of you are into that. Scenery is nice. Rent a bike and go for a nice ride through the country side.
