The last time (1890's) polygamy as a craft was legislated out of Mormonism by the enforcement of law by the government of the United States.
This was a brutally messy situation taking many years. So embarrassing that it is lied about even to this day.
How would the Mormon God go about it?
Precedences in scripture?
How Polygamy could be ended by the Mormon God?

The Mormon God is no respecter of governments or the laws of men. The Mormon God would say, "Continue my laws, regardless of what persecutions you might bear! Your blood and suffering shall be on the hands of the wicked who don't understand my eternal commandments."

Well yes and no. The Manifesto was the mind and will of the Mormon God (as Boaz just pointed out). Well sortof, since it continued to be practiced in spite of the Declaration.
But is there a doctrinal precedence where He commanded the practice and then rescinded it without being forced by the same puny arm that could not turn the Missouri river from it's decreed course?

Hi Inc.,
On a more serious note...
It is my understanding that mainstream Christianity for the most part believes polygamy was practiced (allowed)? in the Old Testament but Christ clearly taught that it was wrong and a man should only have one wife, the two shall be as one, and they should cleave unto one another.
I think only LDS, FLDS, and some fridge Christian polygamists (of those who believe in Jesus) argue otherwise.

I guess what I'm getting at is that there is no precedence of the Mormon or even biblical God commanding a cessation (except for the alleged Manefesto authored by Him - having been forced by Satan).
I would agree with you TD (on previous threads), if there is a kind and loving God, he would not have commanded and justified the practice in the old testament either.
It is fortunate for the Mormon church that the government did step in. Look at the fruit of poligamy today - no matter where or how it is practiced.
The church would have never survived the last 40 years of societal progress in the US.
Worth a thread on it's own.

Perhaps exactly as it ocurred.
Precedences in scripture?
The change over from the law of Moses to Christianity. Obviously not all Jews jumped on the bandwagon.
