Mormon Richard Turley: Brigham did not order MMM

Post by _Infymus »

From the SLC Trib: http://origin.sltrib.com/ci_9378012

Richard Turley was one of three people hired by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to examine the massacre, including the role of the former LDS Church president.

"there is not enough evidence to conclude that Brigham Young ordered the Mountain Meadows Massacre in 1857 that killed 120 Arkansas emigrants"

Turley, the church's assistant historian, spoke Saturday at the annual meeting of the Mormon History Association.

After reviewing all of the evidence, Turley concludes that Young didn't order the massacre in southern Utah.

He says the three authors hired to do the project worked with dozens of researchers and examined documents from archives across the country looking for any evidence related to the incident.

Except their own vaults, of course. And of course Turley will now rake in oodles of cash from Mormons by publishing his findings in a book.

Never trust a Mormon who has been hired by the Mormon Cult to come to preconceived conclusions.

At very least I would have to describe Young's involvement as contributory negligence.

How could anyone not see that he had made an effort to obstruct justice?

I got this quote from the MAD thread on the same topic:

"He did not order it. Instead, local (church) leaders in the charged environment of the Utah War made a series of horrible decisions" that "led to the murder of 120 men, women and children, not one of whom deserved to die," Turley said.

Just what created that "charged environment"? Certainly the US gov't contributed to it, but equally culpable were church leaders who engaged in outrageous, violent rhetoric.
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

So if I get carjacked and then murdered, the person driving around in my car is not involved? uhhhuh. sure.

Young was seen driving around in one of the Fanchers shiny new wagons.
And crawling on the planet's face
Some insects called the human race
Lost in time
And lost in space...and meaning

I seem to recall that there is a crucial page missing from the journal of someone who met with Brigham Young before the massacre. Does anyone remember more of the details?
“I was hooked from the start,” Snoop Dogg said. “We talked about the purpose of life, played Mousetrap, and ate brownies. The kids thought it was off the hook, for real.”

Can I get a reference on that?
One moment in annihilation's waste,
one moment, of the well of life to taste-
The stars are setting and the caravan
starts for the dawn of nothing; Oh, make haste!

Regardless of facts pointing to a smoking gun, Brigham's actions after the murders were not very becoming of a supposed prophet who spoke with God.

Isn't having Turley doing research to prove BY was not involved like the Nazis hiring one of their own to investigate whether Hitler was involved in the Holocaust?
