New Emma Smith Movie. Church Approved?

Post by _Joey »

Last nite I went to the movies for the first time in a couple years. My daughter and I went to see Indy Jones.

She has become indoctrinated into the LDS organization via her mom. She showed me this big back lit poster they have for coming attractions promoting a new movie on the life of Emma Smith.

Normaly I would have heard about this, if it were LDS church supported, as we have with all the other LDS faith-promoting dismal movies of the past. Ironically, I have heard nor seen nothing from the typical LDS medium channels.

Also, I noticed that amongst all the coming attractions displayed by these back lit posters in the theater lobby, it was the only one not to make it on the screen during the 15 minute "coming attraction clip session"!

Am I safe to assume that this is not church sanctioned or supported. It surprised me at first knowing how much effort the LDS church has avoided the role of Emma to date. Anyone know anything about this movie? Who is behind it?

Judging from the trailer, it is cut from the same cloth as "Legacy", "Handcart", "The Work and the Glory", and other faith-promoting films set in the early LDS period.

While not directly produced or endorsed by the Church, I'm sure the filmmakers weren't setting out to blaze any new trails, or narrow their audience by showing anything the list bit controversial or uncomfortable.

Is polygamy mentioned in the film?

From the theme I see in the trailer, I'd say it is not.

The trailer does show old Joe RUNNING with the gold plates, even with his bum leg..

Again, this movie was made for the sappy membership who believes anything that appears was produced by the church.

This is part of the latest "Reworking the Story" where they pull Emma out of Brigham's ass and polish her once hated image.

Bum leg? Wasn't that the result of needing a medical procedure but refusing the alcohol and taking the pain, prior to receiving the Word of Wisdom? Man, he sure went downhill after getting section 88. By the time he went down with a smoking gun, he'd been drinking more than you, I, and Coggins put together.
