Hot or not?
Maybe I'm just in a snarky mood, but it struck me as odd (and amusing) that over the other board, some posters are now discussing whether Eliza R. Snow was hot or not (and therefor worthy of Joseph Smith's lust).
Check out the most recent post on it here.

I really hate it when posters do this, and it happens frequently. Invariably, some poster suggests lust could not possibly be a factor in plural marriage because just look at these ugly old hags...
these photos were usually taken later in life, after these women had lived rough pioneer lives. Many of the contemporary statements note some of these women were quite attractive in their youth.
I vote that any poster that makes a snarky comment about the looks of the polygamous wives should be forced to post a picture of him/herself for the rest of us to rate: hot or not. Lust or not?
Arrrgh.

We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

Hi Skippy,
I'm with you on this.
It really gets to me when I hear believers disparage polygamous women for not lack of attractiveness.... It speaks to their belief that attractiveness is all they find valuable in a woman, or that they find non-gorgeous women unworthy of attention and care or interest.
ARRGHHH.
And lets think about it, back then they didn't have make-up, sunscreen, or teeth whiteners. Seriously, these women lived a very difficult life and hardly got a bath let alone had the luxuries of skin care and braces.
I find the comments beyond cruel.

Edit... I didn't read Beastie's comment prior to posting. Should have just said: "ditto." LOL!

I take it this would be a bad place for me to quote Mark Twain's sarcastic praise of Mormon polygamy.
Anyhow, I think there are many things which tickle the fancies besides looks: wealth and tribal/familial ties have historically been big. More recently, people actually do find others more or less attractive based on personality. For a wimp like me, not being able to flex muscles left me having to artificially augment my brainpower with computers so I'd appear smart and hopefully somewhat competitive. Furthermore, don't older people tend to find other old people attractive even when (most) younger people do not?
