Clicking on this link takes you to a group of scriptures. The last of the scriptures listed is D&C Section 132. If you click on the tab that is labeled "Readings", and then click on "Doctrinal Developments in Nauvoo", it will take you to the following .pdf file, which is part of a CES manual. If you scroll down to the section on plural marriage, it says the following:

When I saw this, I thought it was a joke - a parody whose aim was to indicate that it was well-nigh impossible for a normal enquirer to find anything about plural marriage.

But this is REALLY what you have to do to find anything on this topic from the Joseph Smith site!

Case rests.

Actually, this is a well-thought out PR move on the church's part. I think their goal is to keep uninformed members uninformed, while retaining a degree of deniability regarding hiding history.

In other words - unless someone already knew about polygamy, and was deliberately looking for that specific information, he/she wouldn't have the first clue where to look, or even that they SHOULD look.

This has always been my biggest criticism of the MAD complaint that members who don't know this stuff are just lazy. How do you know to look for information you have no clue even exists in the first place????
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

That's why I posted it! LOL

Truth is, indeed, stranger than fiction. ;)

It's obvious that the Church is not being straight-forward about this. Otherwise, why wouldn't they have something more direct regarding Plural Marriage? After all, wasn't Plural Marriage one of the major institutions that Joseph Smith supposedly "restored"? Aren't we told in our "modern scripture", the Proclamation of the Family, that marriage is the most important institution of the Church?

Since plural marriage, is, according to Church doctrine, an eternal law, then why isn't its' purpose emphasized more among the masses?

Maybe because even Church leaders aren't so sure about how "eternal" this law is? Food for thought....
