MAD cannot have this because the church isn't true, and most of its truth claims are fairy tales. It's not that critics are smarter or better at debate - it's that the MAD believers are holding the wrong end of the stick.
Does anyone doubt, for one tiny minute, that if LDS truly felt like they were "winning" these debates they wouldn't be so frustrated??? In the early days of ZLMB, TBMs enjoyed the rough debate - but the vast majority of critics, at that time, were EVs from the Tanners' old board. As soon as the balance among critics shifted to secular critics, THEN the whining and frustrations started among the LDS, eventually resulting in the exodus and creation of FAIR.
They don't really want to completely exclude critics, because then they look like the cowards they've always accused RFM of being. They want critics, but they want to WIN the debates. Since they can't, they're doomed to continual frustration.
Frankly, I think it's hilarious.
I think it is also dependent on the unique personalities running the show over there. Can you imagine the board being run this way if Clark Goble and Kevin Winters were in charge? That said, there is an ocean of people like this in all manner of diverse topics. This kind of culture seems to develop whenever people commit to defending highly dubious views. The MADB board's apologetic culture doesn't differ much from the "vaccination causes autism"'s culture in terms of in it's approach to critics. They're totally different in what they are concerned about, but their modus operandi is eerily similar.

You're a sweetheart, by the way. :)
The "one of us" hopefully refers to a very narrow subset of posters here. She sounds nothing like the majority of people currently populating the board (including some of our more recent visitors from MAD).
I do believe that she represents a very reasonable voice on both boards.
edit: The first paragraph may have come across a bit harsher than intended. Nonetheless, I believe that for many people, it may not be entirely complimentary to lump them in with many of the denizens of this board.
As "one of us", as in one of the "denizens of this board", I'd like to know exactly how one goes about being lumped with aforementioned denizens, and why that's such a bad thing?
Sorry - I've got a bit of cranky going on. Looking at the majority of the recent posts on the board (and this is likely my skewed perception), there seems to be a predominance of crudity, personal attacks, and vitriol that I do not enjoy. There are a few threads here and there that are of interest, but in general there is an overpowering element that many may not want to be lumped in with. That's all I'm saying. And I'm probably not saying it well.
I may be going to hell in a bucket, babe / But at least I'm enjoying the ride.

There's gotta be something seriously screwed down there if LoP voices his criticism towards MAD&d Brethren.

Do you MA&D exmos spend time in church refuting the lessons with logic and facts? No, of course not! They would kick you out.
MA&D is nothing more than online Mormon priesthood and gospel doctrine class. WHY do any of you spend any time there?
Looks like you haven't paid much attention in either one or the other. Maybe both.

I agree with this. LoaP is utterly terrified, possibly to the point of apoplexy, that someone will one day discover whatever doubts he might have, or whatever sins he may have committed. When it was suggested, in another thread, that LoaP might not agree with every last little thing that the Prophet says, he went ballistic, spending countless time preparing images replete with clarifying arrows and the like, all in order to prove to everyone just how obedient and compliant he is.
All this Sethbag banning buisness made me remember last year when Sethbag had his "Please don't ban me" post regarding proper use of taglines. I then asked him if I could add those words to my sig-line and did so. Scratch then started a thread about Sethbag's plea saying that it seemed that Sethbag was almost pleading for his life. Remember that episode?
