I know this doesn't fit with all the conspiracy theories, but it may just be a scout handshake. http://www.geocities.com/~pack215/cs-handshake.html

I agree. And Bush's mouth is moving because he's saying "Be Prepared" to Monson. Monson's looking at him and going "huh?" rather confusedly, and Eyring, who recognized what was going on, thought it was kind of funny.
Mormonism ceased being a compelling topic for me when I finally came to terms with its transformation from a personality cult into a combination of a real estate company, a SuperPac, and Westboro Baptist Church. - Kishkumen

It isn't particularly odd that both would know secret handshakes of one stripe or another. What's creepy is that they both know that the other will recognize this particular one.
The road is beautiful, treacherous, and full of twists and turns.

I swear Monson looks like The Penguin with his body and huge nose.

So, is that a way for Masons to recognize each other?

Alrighty then.

From your point of view as a Freemason, what is the meaning of the handshake they're exchanging?

It does not fit with the Blue Lodge methods of masonic identification. Higher up? I have no idea.

My understanding is that Masonic handshakes, etc. are not done outside of the Masonic temples, very similar to our temple ceremony.

When I was involved in Rainbow for Girls, which is a Masonic sponsored organization, there were handshakes and symbols which we could only reveal to a "closed" ceremony, like an initiation. An installation, which was open to the public, was very limited as far as handshakes and symbols which could happen openly.

Has this been your experience in the Masonic lodge, Merc? Are there any actual handshakes which are permitted outside the Masonic Temple?
