That's just down right bonkers.
Yeah, and it means my family Beach House and Lake Powell houseboat trips are giving Satan power to kill us all. Damn that dihydrogen monoxide.
I'm sure it has nothing to do with the scantily clad people who tend to be involved in water activities and sports and everything to do with demon water, the silent killer.

But that "myth" is based on an old blessing given to a 19th century Apostle who almost drowned on his mission while taking a row-boat across a river somewhere in England. I forget who it was, but it was read out loud on our mission as the justification for the rule.

I go swimming almost every day. I am sooooo damned. My love of the water must be a love of my dark Lord Satan and his minions.
Oh well, if the water is cursed, I'll have to go uncurse it.

Well, missionaries who go into the water are disobedient, and through disobedience we allow Satan to have power to do with us what he will. That was the logic employed on our mission. I served in Spain as well as Anaheim. It was well understood in both that this was the case. Going swimming was such a serious crime that it could result in you being sent home.

That I can agree with but it has to do with breaking the rules not some control Satan has over water.

That's a distinction with little difference for most Mormons.

Well, luckily I'm really only responsible for me regarding that problem.

Even if he believes that....does he not realize how stupid he sounds? To LDS and non-LDS.
Nehor,
My relative was in the temple presidency when I went through for the first time. He met the poor guy that crashed and burned in his crop duster. He was horrifically disfigured - all except beneath his garments. He related this story ad nausium to everyone as the reason for wairing ones garments night and day.
This isn't a myth. This man and the burning plane event happened.
This man underwent numerous operations and constant and excruciating pain.
What a rotten God He is for building His Mormon faith at the expense of disfiguring the human temple of one of His children.
Nehor, you wair your garments for physical protection.
