looks like my behavior is rubbing off on BC. Geez BC, get some new material or at least credit me!
I give credit where credit is due. I'll take all the credit for creating a post whose humor went above the heads of some, offended the PC crowd, and was so deep it caused all of you to miss the point.
I wouldn't say we're being held to a higher standard here, just a different one.
Matthew 13:18-23
Yeah, that's the ticket. It wasn't offensive per se, but it was our problem for being too PC or too stupid to get the point.
Liz, you are asking if professed members of the church (which claims to love everyone while exhibiting Christ like attitudes towards even enemies of LDS Inc) should practice what they preach while obtaining from coffee/tea/tobacco/alcohol?
Ahh yeah.
Otherwise they are hypocrites, as defined by your own standards which you support.
And you added an unwarranted conclusion. That, I believe, is why many of you are so easily offended.
Be clear: I wasn't "offended." I just thought you really put your foot in your mouth and showed yourself to be a rather tasteless, crude individual. At least Merc and B&L are proud to be crass. There's nothing like someone who palms off his own social ineptitude on the uptightness of those around him.
Apparently, you can dish out the crap, but you can't take it.
And by the way, you're taking me far too seriously. ;)

I bet either his parents or inlaws live in the same stake if not the same ward.
What's really sad, BC, and probably frustrating for you, is that your point was, indeed lost. It wasn't that it was too deep for any of us. Your point was rather simple, really. It was the fact that for two anti-Mormons to be arguing over what is or isn't Mormon doctrine is ironic. Then, you illustrated the irony with what you thought was a funny picture.
What you didn't count on was the backlash. Your poor choice of illustration made the very point you were trying to make obsolete.
Several weeks ago I attended a natural health expo; with vendors selling and promoting various herbs, potions, (smile), and remedies. Among the vendors was a woman selling some drink that was "proven" to restore vitality, reduce weight, balance the body etc. etc. The woman was about sixty pounds overweight and didn't reflect the end result of the product by any means.
Now, the issue is not that this woman is not healthy, the problem is she is promoting a product designed particularly to restore health but it clearly wasn't working for her.
When we observe truly disgusting and cruel behavior, it is not that there is a different standard, of course not, it is that some people claim they have the very representative of God, the HG as a gift and companion, they claim to hold the power of God, to be "His" disciple, to follow "His" teachings, and yet they find nothing wrong with cruelty toward those who are most in need of care and compassion.
THIS is what is shocking.
Even when it is pointed out that the behavior is despicable there is no sense of concern but continual justification and rationalization.
THIS is what is weird.
It is not about being PC, or some morality police, it is about human decency.
