I give credit where credit is due. I'll take all the credit for creating a post whose humor went above the heads of some, offended the PC crowd, and was so deep it caused all of you to miss the point.

I wouldn't say we're being held to a higher standard here, just a different one.

Matthew 13:18-23

Yes, so true. Social conventions against making fun of the physically and mentally disabled is sooo liberal, left-wing PC. As a dedicated social and political conservative, bcspace is way beyond such piddling concerns.

When I was at BYU, discussions/critiques of personal behavior routinely include something referencing the presumed moral superiority of BYU students, faculty, etc. For example, when I mixed with students and faculty working on international development (e.g., strategies for poverty alleviation), those I worked with consistently emphasized that BYU, of all places, was uniquely positioned to deal with these issues. The unstated but clear assumption was that Mormons are really more concerned with such issues, and more personally moral, than non-Mormons.

At BYU it is also routinely assumed that its Honor Code places on a higher moral plane than other universities. (As if cheating is widely encouraged at, say, the University of Oregon.) Of course, such statements often refer more specifically to the Mormon prohibition of alcohol and tobacco, which Mormons commonly view as granting them moral superiority.

Such presumed moral superiority is also present whenever Mormons, commenting on the personal attributes of another, lead off with something like, "for a non-member . . . ."

It is the "we are the true followers of Christ, so we are naturally more moral than the rest" kind of crap that one finds everywhere in the Mormon Church.

This kind of presumed moral superiority that you poo poo is pervasive in Mormon culture and obvious to anyone who cares to pay attention.

Wow!!!!! This is the second thread started because I defended BC's picture. Analyzing me and my actions must be fascinating to you. I think you people need lives.....stat. ;)

Since I'm the thread starter, I'll speak to this.

I'm afraid, my friend, that you are thinking too highly of yourself. My starting of this thread had nothing to do with you.

It did, however, have to do with BC's actions.

Sorry to burst your bubble, Nehor, but I don't consider you a serious Church apologist. You act more like a little kid who stomps his foot to get attention. My 4 year old does that. (Trouble is, I tend to spoil my 4 year old since I had him at 40, so I pay attention to him, much the same as I am paying attention to Nehor now. LOL)

I was surprised and, frankly, a little hurt by BC's actions. His initial posting of the picture was, simply, in bad taste, and rather insensitive.

If BC had simply manned up, and said, "You know what...that really wasn't a smart thing to do. I didn't really look at this joke as something that was overtly offensive, but I really didn't have any idea that this would strike such a hard chord with those who dealt with special needs children. That was certainly not the intent of what I was trying to do, and I'm sorry."

That's all he would have had to have done. That, in my opinion, as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, a church that, supposedly focuses on Christ's teachings as the core of the gospel, should have done.

What I find ironic is that someone who professes to defend the gospel...someone who has stated to me in various conversations, defends the Church because it hurts his heart to see it disrespected, would act so callously toward other human beings by simply diminishing their feelings, i.e., stating that they are simply being "overly PC".

It also hurts that, even though we have disagreed on issues, I have considered him a friend, and, when I PM'd him concerning my feelings on this matter(and conveying the fact that I have a special needs child), he chose to not even respond to me, but to instead, comment callously in public about those being offended obviously being either too stupid or too PC to understand his actions.

Don't worry. I'm not offended. I don't consider myself a serious Church apologist.

Yes, I'm acting like a 4 year old. This is good. I am under commandment to be as a little child. At last I am succeeding. Hooray!

You are right, I did not think of it that way. I do know many people that went to BYU, most of which were kicked out because of their 'moral judgement' or lack there of. But from the stories I'd heard they did have a good time LOL.

BUT what I most wanted to comment on was the Oregon statement. Yes, as an Oklahoma fan (and if you don't watch college football you may not get this) Oregon does cheat!

I really do not know the answer when posters deliberately act so callously, particularly when you've made a strenuous, genuine effort to reach out and explain your position. What is the "reward" behind such callous behavior, is what I wonder.
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

You may want to re-read Corinthians 13:11:

11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

I wonder that, myself.

In any case, I'm taking a break from the board for a while. I'm afraid if I say more, it's going to digress into something really ugly. Nothing pushes my buttons more than issues involving innocent children (even if they're photoshopped) being the butt of a joke.

I get PM notifications through my email, so if there are moderator concerns, please PM me.

Otherwise, I'm on hiatus for the rest of the week...maybe longer.

Yes, your position was stated well and genuinely.

My take on your position: YOU ARE ALL HORRIBLE MONSTERS!!!!

Trust me, we got it.
