Very well said.
Yes, I believe you are correct in your summation of why Nehor and BC do this. They’ve pretty much admitted as much right on this thread. Nehor specifically stated that exLDS make fun of LDS beliefs and leaders, and, to him, this is the same thing. So clearly it’s retribution. This is a lashing out, and not based at all in reason and logic. First off, LDS teachings state that we “apostates” are the dregs of the earth to begin with. We’re regularly called liars and practically the spawn of Satan. ExLDS often say the church is a cult and members brainwashed or stupid. It seems to me that, already, the table is pretty even. So logic fails on this point as a justification.
Second is even more obvious – the mentally handicapped are innocent bystanders. They act as if mocking them is a victimless crime since there are no mentally handicapped people reading this board. But they know good and well because they’ve been repeatedly told, that we have family members or students who are handicapped. It’s like two adults getting into a fight, and because one of the adults doesn’t feel like he hurt or upset the other adult enough, he will threaten the children of the other adult in order to upset and frighten the adult. Geez, even the mafia doesn’t stoop that low. Or maybe they do, I’m not sure. But certainly decent human beings don’t stoop that low.
But you are right, this is clearly what they’re doing, pretty much by their own admission. Like TD, I have mixed feelings about how to respond, but I’ve concluded I’m going to ignore their repulsive behavior (and yes, I think it is repulsive) because to do otherwise only “feeds” their desire for “blood”, so to speak. But there is other bad behavior on this board I’ve decided to ignore much for the same reason. Some posters here seem to relish in playing “the bad boy” (usually male) and will just ratchet it up if people protest. While they may not technically be “trolls” in the true internet meaning of the word, their behavior in this aspect is trollish, and it probably is best not to feed trollish behavior.
So I guess I’ll just have to content myself with knowing that LDS teachings are clear on this point, and they are in open defiance of those teachings, and believing LDS think that Jesus or angels notice and record all this behavior, even one’s innermost thoughts, so deep down they must feel some small particle of shame. I don’t know if Jesus existed or not, but if what is recorded about him is accurate at all, I do know that he would be extremely angry at their behavior. I guess Jesus is a PC thug.
Thanks, A.I.. We can usually depend on you for the voice of reason, much like Katherine the Great (and being compared to Katherine the Great is a HUGE compliment, although I hesitate to say that because it might make other LDS view her as an enemy of some sort, whereas in reality, she’s just sensible and honest). I like being reminded that the behavior of a few on this board in no way represent the majority of LDS.

We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

What the heck????
We're called cultists, deluded, sick, lacking in rational thought, and I've been called a rapist and a monster.
Posting an image to mildly poke fun at someone though.....THAT'S SICK!!!!
Just pointing out the hideous double standard.
I would add that we seem to have a much more civil and tolerant reaction when the invective is coming our way. Still, that's subjective.
Ridiculing people for beliefs is quite different from ridiculing them for mental or physical handicaps.
This is so obvious, I'm surprised I have to point it out to you (ok, I take that back, I'm not really surprised).
God . . . "who mouths morals to other people and has none himself; who frowns upon crimes, yet commits them all; who created man without invitation, . . . and finally, with altogether divine obtuseness, invites this poor, abused slave to worship him ..."

I don't see how this applies as I have been ridiculing people's belief that some people should not be ridiculed. You'll notice no attacks on the handicapped in this or the other threads that have spawned from the debacle. I'm ridiculing the BELIEF that they should not be ridiculed.
I'm not surprised you didn't notice this.

Oh, now that makes a WORLD of difference. Just a WORLD.
So I guess you're ridiculing BKP's belief that they should not be ridiculed too, eh?
Nehor, when you stop making any sort of sense by any sane measure, it's time to give up.

I agree.

Yep, but it's more of a good-natured ridicule/banter for him.

I agree, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

There is something really wrong with someone who ridicules others who believe that human beings who have the good fortune to be born with all their faculties intact, through no merit of their own but due to accident of birth, have a moral obligation NOT to mock the disabled.

It's debatable whether ridicule can help. Here's a debate regarding this: http://www.theonion.com/content/video/i ... be_shaming

PC thug--that's a good description! I'm sure the Pharisees thought the same thing! He was always getting after them and the Saducees for everything they did--No wonder they wanted to kill him!

Yes, for me the comparison is a big compliment(Thank you!), for KTG...not so much:) She's a definite favorite of mine at MADB, and she can always be counted on to speak her mind and she can hold her own--she's one I watch to learn from.
Truthdancer: What is different for me is when people who claim to be followers of Christ, who claim to have God's power, who claim to have the gift of the holy ghost enjoy cruelty and find humor in mocking the disabled.
There is just something really odd about that. Do you disagree?
I do agree, and I'm not sure why it happens, but it does. I think one explanation is that people can compartmentalize and depersonalize humor--some humor involves embarrasing others, pulling mean pranks, even causing pain etc. and this passes for humor in movies and television and among friends--often it's inoccuous but some can get pretty mean. I'm often offended by humor that others think is hilarious. I was thinking of an example; my daughter likes to watch a British game show and one of the questions was about the woman who had to have a face transplant because she was mauled by a dog. I was incredulous to hear comedians joking about this woman's plight and the audience roaring with laughter--unbelievable.
There are two great treatises found in scripture on the absolute importance of the gift of Charity--It truly is a gift and one that I believe the Holy ghost can inspire us to develop. But only if we are willing to try and have it...otherwise, we're down in the audience guffawing with all the other "natural men" at the trials, sufferings and mishaps of our fellowmen.
Runtu; Maybe they won't listen to reprobates like me, but there's a chance you might get through to them.
Well, I listen to you:) And you're no "reprobate"!... I doubt they think of you that way either.
