Justify things like joining a cult that was (and to an extent, still is) fundamentally racist?
Justify things like emotionally abusing your children, telling them they will be tormented in Hell if they don't follow the cults rules?
Justify things like treating sex as if it is some sort of spiritual procedure that needs to be done properly in order to appease the bearded guy in the sky?

Glass houses, and all. A lot of peope think Mormons are twisted in the head too.

We must respect the other fellow's religion, but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart.

Gaz,

I don't want to watch most people have sex and get tickled that so many people think sex outside of their sex life is yucky. If I declare that you're yucky or I find you in the act and it's gross (by my standards) can I make laws concerning your behavior and tell you not to show your sexuality in public?

Hmm... I might start doing that.... just randomly tell people how gross they are to me and for them to cut it the hell out 'cause I don't wanna think of them in that way!

Is being ugly, unattractive and yucky a choice?

Unattractive folks can't help it! They were born that way.

I say let ugly folks have all the sex they want. (As long as it ain't with me...) Heck, let them kiss in public. Or, *gasp* get married! They have rights, too.

BIG Wink Here: ;)

I know you were joking and just playing off my post (and I was obviously joking as well) yet, it made me think of something. My first husband was not traditionally handsome by societies standards (he was quite beautiful, to me!) and strangers OFTEN made comments to us about being an odd couple. It was rude and I was horrified every time it happened. I recall two instances quite vividly (probably 'cause they were sooo blatant about it) -- I was standing outside a store waiting for him to come out and I was enduring catcalls from a group of young men in a pick up truck. My husband walked out and we walked off together and they called after me saying rude things about him (hmm.... may this be another reason I don't like alpha males???) and I replied affirmatively that I was with him (we were young -- and young people have stupid conversations!) and they were quite obnoxious with their statements. Another time a WAITER made a comment to me. I will never understand why ANYONE concerns themselves with who people love or how they're intimate with each other -- it's just rude!

As with all the other studies of the past alleging biological causation, there is, as it were, nothing to see here.

A side note: Alfred Kinsey has been utterly and completely discredited scientifically for quites sometime, and it would be wise for LDS to avoid using him or any aspect of his terribly cooked junk science in defending either the LDS or any other position regarding the variables governing the origins of homosexual orientation.

Once again, the mainstream hit and run leftist media report a new study demonstrating quite literally nothing of conclusive substance as strong evidence for the existence a reductionistic genetic "cause" of homosexuality. The actual study presents us, as with similar past studies, with nothing of the kind.

This is also a further warning and object lesson regarding taking much of what is reported in the mainstream press and news media - on many subjects - with any degree of seriousness.

Are furries geneticly predisposed to being furries?

No God who created furries would be worth worshipping.

Are S&M fetish freaks geneticly predisposed?

Who cares? I think they're funny.

Scat lovers?

I blame Freud.

Beastiality?

I'm gonna go with the advice given by Mr. Deity on this one:

"That's gotta be a capital offense for everyone involved."
"Even the animal?"
"Especially the animal."
"That's a really bad day for the animal sir."

Pedophiles?

They can't help it so I say we just kill them.

Its a perversion, plain and simple. And a choice.

This is highly relevant, and I've brought this up before on many occasions with respect to this issue. Homosexuality, and especially male homosexuality, has been the first sexual subculture to find a political voice and learn how to access a ideologically sympathetic media culture and and the power of the bureaucratic state. The organized pedophiles have been following closely on their heels for about 20 years. While other kinds of sexual fetishes have, as of yet, found no need for political activism, any talk of the origins of behaviors ranging from group sex, BDSM, exhibitionism, transvestitism, bestiality, or necrophilia, can, so long as human sexuality is understood to be irreducibly determined by genetic and/or biological factors, be subsumed under the rubric of "born that way"

This is, of course, the classical leftist therapeutic culture explanation for just about everything, and is a fundamental aspect of the secular humanist weltanschauung

I would have a lot more respect for sexual subcultures that insisted they chose this and that this is what they want. This makes them someone standing for something. As it is, Coggins is right. It's a horrible feeling of victimization that demeans the people claiming it and inspires pity in everyone else. I hate it when people pity me and I'm pretty sure most healthy humans feel the same way.

Now, already, Kemp drops his pants and we see exposed the real truth, not even two full pages into the thread (and if dropping one's pants in public is genetically determined, we'll have to forgive him his choicless impulse...).

Within a few posts, using the Savic study as a hook, Kemp switches gears to the standard Romper Room Madalyn Murry O' Hairesque religion bashing that will, from here on, stand in for serious critical argument.

Move along, nothing to see here.

But we knew that...
